Bryan Singer Not Directing Superman Returns 2?

Anne Thompson, who writes for Variety, has posted some juicy news about our favorite DC Comics superheroes to her blog. According to Thompson, director Bryan Singer won't be working on Superman: The Man of Steel, the sequel to his Superman Returns, Justice League of America is on hold due to the writer's strike, and Warner Bros. is desperate to get Chris Nolan to agree to do a sequel to The Dark Knight!

Thompson writes:

Speaking of DC Comics pics, it is highly unlikely that Bryan Singer will return to shoot the next Superman movie. (The director is finishing up Tom Cruise's Nazi film Valkyrie, and prepping The Mayor of Castro Street). The next Superman we will see on the big screen will not be Brandon Routh, but a younger Superman among a cast of youthful superheroes in Justice League of America. That movie will likely not be shot, however, until after the WGA strike is resolved. Warners is so happy with The Dark Knight that their fondest hope is that Nolan will return to do another Batman.

In addition to this news, Thompson also spoke with The Dark Knight director Chris Nolan, who told her that it was his idea to shoot sections of the film in IMAX.

The Dark Knight opens on July 18, 2008, and stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart and Maggie Gylenhall.

Superman: Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Julia Ormond. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

Justice League of America is in development .

The Dark Knight was released July 18th, 2008 and stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Monique Gabriela Curnen. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

It would be really cool if they could figure out a better way to do the disguise. Because i do agree it is a pretty lame disguise. They need to get a Superman outfit that doesnt make him look like he is a stripper. Something that makes us think, well, super. I dont think they should just stop making the movies tho. He was like DC Comics first major hero. They just need to reconstruct the character.

Yeah they were saying about just completely starting the entire Superman franchise over which i think is a very good move. They started out good in the 70s and then it all went downhill from there. They need to have someone like Metallo come out in this one. Someone that can physically keep up with Superman. It needs to be done in the style of the first Spider-man film. That would be a great film. Superman needs to have alot of action and great actors/actresses with great storylines to save this franchise.

Don't care to much for JLA right now, but would like to see Singer direct Superman sequel, Superman Returns wasn't the greatest but to me was still pretty good and I think Singer would do a good job on sequel, 1. because he is a good director and 2. he said that next superman movie would have a lot more action.

I think it's the right move for this franchise to get a new director. Superman Returns was very disappointing and with any luck they'll recast Lois Lane with someone who can actually act!!! I do hope that Brandon Routh comes back. He wasn't the most engaging Superman but he's got potential. Would love to see Tom Welling play the part in JLA!!!

action and what about explaining how superman got to

Brian Singer should never be allowed to direct a comic to film adaptation ever again, his take on X-Men was a complete bastardization of the storyline and the characters, Ratner was doomed to make a sh*tty third part just based on what Singer had set up prior to (poorly!)... and Superman Returns???

The ultimate villain of that film was a giant geode, what was he going to do for a follow up have Supes fight a huge ficus???

i, for one, enjoyed Superman Returns very much and am disappointed that Singer will not direct Man of Steel. hopefully, Kevin Spacey will return as Luthor, though...he was absolutely fantastic (as he always is).

I'm not too terribly disapointed with Bryan Singer not directing the next Superman. I'm excited that he has some other great projects to work on in the mean time though. Justice League and The Dark Knight are certainly my top picks for favorite comic book adaptations ever. The Dark Knight Fan Site got me real excited about the movie, but now that it is going to be in the IMAX I'm totally stoked! I'd love to see it in 3D as well. Think that'll happen? How about 3D-IMAX, totally blow my mind!
