Producer/director Bryan Singer has signed on to direct and executive produce NBC's The Munsters.

The project is described as an imaginative reinvention of the classic comedy series as a visually spectacular one-hour drama.

Bryan Fuller has reimagined the new version which is said to be an edgier and slightly darker take exploring origins of Herman and Lily Munster (originally played by Fred Gwynne and Yvonne De Carlo) and how they arrived at the famed 1313 Mockingbird Lane address.

The original Munsters, produced by Universal Studios, aired 70 episodes from 1964-66 on CBS.

Guess everyone needs to pay the rent!..!! Didn't they already remake "The Munsters" in the late 80's and it bombed!

...Yeah it was called: "The Munsters Today" it ran from 1988 to 1991

What is with this guy and making everything into a sappy drama. Please, Mr. Singer, don't do a Bond film. I don't want to see Bond crying like a bitch to a woman, he tries to share his feelings with.

Singer hasn't done much in a while. And this was a sitcom. Changing it to be some sorta drama or whatever defeats the purpose of a rebooted series. Do something original and just set it in that horror theme.

I couldn't possibly care less about this news. All I care about is that Singer do a decent job with Jack the Giant Killer, then go into production on Battlestar Galactica and THEN, after that, sign on to direct X-Men 4 & 5. That's all I care about, not this Munsters nonsense.

By the way, I wonder when we will get a trailer....or even a new set of photos from Jack the Giant Killer??
I remember we had only a couple set pictures released of Ewan McGregor on the set and in costume....but that was like 7 or 8 months ago!!! Where is all the love for that movie?

I was just thinking the other day that this was one of the better TV shows that should be remade either on the small or big screen. Glad to know someone was listening to me. #NowCutMeThatCheck

Wow! The munster is one of m favorite classic sitcom right next to I love lucy and the rifle man. There's no need to bring it back. I hope they don't mess it up.
