The character of Capt. Pike appeared in the original unaired pilot that Gene Roddenberry created. The pilot was rejected by CBS and then shown to NBC, which turned it down, though it liked the concept enough to commission a second pilot. (Only the character of Spock survived the redevelopment.)
Pike was later weaved back into Star Trek lore as the ship's first captain and appeared in a two-part episode.
Star Trek was released May 8th, 2009 and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy, Eric Bana, Bruce Greenwood, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.

Clark... just wondering... where does it say that Capt. Pike is going to be on the Enterprise with all the younger versions of the original cast? I'm not saying it isn't going to happen, but as far as I can tell no one has said that it will. Right now he's just a character in the movie. He doesn't have to be in scenes with every single actor in the cast just because he's in the movie.

So let me get this straight, you have Capt. Pike on the bridge of the Enterprise with "Younger" Versions of the original cast? Six of them never met the man till he was in a wheel chair, then the seven members of the original cast spend the next 15 to 20 years on the same command? You people except this? All I can say is that as an first run TV watcher, this a sas room of Trekkers, you never were, nor ever will be intitaled to be Trekkies

That's great that they are going to include Capt. Pike. However & I'm not nitpicking, well maybe a bit. *LOL* Capt. Pike was in command of the Enterprise during its 2nd 5 year mission. The 1st captain was Captain Robert April. Then Kirk Had it for its 3rd & 4th 5 year missions. In Star Trek 3: The Search For Spock, Admiral Morrow mentions that the Enterprise is 20 years old.
