Brett Ratner gives update on Youngblood
The Image Comics adaptation Youngblood certainly isn't the longest project to ever rattle around inside a director's wheelhouse, but anticipation for the superhero epic is high, and Brett Ratner has been attached to helm the project since February of 2009. It wasn't until nearly a year later that Ratner hired J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani to pen an adaptation of Rob Liefeld seminal graphic novel. Since that time, we haven't heard a peep about the project.

Brett Ratner recently chatted with MTV, where he gave an update on why it has taken so long to get Youngblood off the ground:

"There were some rights issues. We actually waited for over a year for the rights to these comic books that were made by independent comic books. There was a lot of owners of these comic books and a lot of people were claiming they had the rights. It's taken a long time but I think we've finally cleared the legal part of it. (Rob Liefeld) brought it to me. I think Bryan Singer wanted this, every big director probably wanted it. Rob was like, 'My favorite X-Men [movie] is yours.' I'm like, 'And you're a comic book geek?' So Rob came in and came after me and said, 'I want you to do this comic book. I believe that you could do this great.' I was happy."

Youngblood isn't coming to a theater anytime soon, but Brett Ratner is overly confident that it will eventually get made:

"I'm a tenacious guy and I persevere and I don't stop and if I focus it's going to happen. And I'm focused on it."

Youngblood is in development .

I think that Ratner should just direct the Rush Hour films and nothing else. Apparently he had too good a time directing those films

Brett Ratner is basically an internet joke. I wouldn't sell him the rights to my dirty underwear. Add to that Liefeld's crappy youngblood--they call it seminal?? REALLY? oh never mind i'm done...

The biggest douche and crappiest talent in comics teamed up with one of the crappiest directors in Hollywood (my opinion at least). Sounds like instant FAIL.

Making a lot money doesn't equal good director. And besides, that "lot of money" was made because of the X-Men name, not because of him. The general masses went to see it because it was X Men, I'm guessing half didn't even know that Singer left and that he was what made the first 2 so much better.

Youngblood is a team compared to DCs JLA and Marvel's Avengers. Rob Liefield is the creator under the banner of Image Comics.

It had its good run... but Brett Ratner should consider running away from angry moviegoers!!! Stay out of films!!!
