Airlock Alpha recently talked with Breck Eisner (The Crazies) about his upcoming version of Flash Gordon.

Initially, the comic strip followed the outer space adventures of Flash and his companions Dale Arden and Dr. Hans Zarkov. It was a daily comic strip for more than 60 years. It was turned into "three serial films" and Flash Gordon made its initial big screen bow in 1980.

"The comic from 1930s was made into serials in the '50s and '70s, then the director's version in the '80s," Eisner said. "It was campy and the effects were not so good - this version is in no way a remake. Our version goes back to strips from '30s and we will update those and shoot the movie as if the strips were drawn today. It will be an action and adventure sci-fi."

He then went on to talk about the potential of Flash Gordon and what the future may hold for the property.

"It'll be a franchise for sure," he said. "It will be a standalone story, it definitely won't left open for more, but the ultimate goal is to turn it into a franchise. It will be an origins story for Flash. He's going to Mongo, he's gonna save the planet and it will have a superhero buy in and will be unique. It is very much a superhero origins story."

Flash Gordon was released in 2011. The film is directed by Breck Eisner.

I, personally think this should be left alone...i don't know why, i just don't think this needs a remake. I guess if they keep the Queen theme song it might be a little better.

i like this idea and think it should be done and updated. i think it should have a Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow feel (but obviously better written and the story told better). keep it nostalgic, but update it and make it better. even better would be keeping it family friendly, but this day-and-age that's a lot to ask.

Granted Diaigma but Hollywood won't let it rest. I heard early this year that Lost in Space is being revamped once again. though I doubt it will see the light of day.

I kinda prefer FLASH GORDON as a campy space opera rather than just sf action flick.
