My apologies, man. I didn't mean to sound like a know-it-all.
I should have said "I assumed it was Roku all along" because it sounded like him to me.
I'm just happy that you confirmed it for us :)

Thanks, dude. Too bad Movieweb changed it's format and ruined our little fan club by not letting us have our own custom pages anymore. It's cool that you remembered thelastairbenderfans@movieweb. You're an excellent Vice President.
Chalk one up for the Avatards ;)

Here's a link to an article about the Creators of the show are talking a little bit about the movie.

Take it that the article is over a year and half old. It does hold some insight.

@Wohitzi, well said friend. Good point on Transformers and such franchises showing some humor to sell it. Hope you find at least some convenience in renting it. As a fan, I can honestly say I hope you eat your words (which would mean I enjoyed it as did you). Its a polite thing. :) But thanks for sharing your point of view, it has been seen before and I am sure Shyalman wishes they had cast better people too. From what I hear his kids are huger fans than the lot of us as is he, and I am sure he got some nagging when he got home from the casting calls. :)

Overall, as Vice President of lastairbenderfans@movieweb, I must side with President Diaigma and I agree. "If you don't like it fall back to the series". It will still cool man. Opinions are opinions.

P.S. Thank you @venom(Dark enV). You had a good point about Star Trek as well.

@ Wohitzi, look man I agree with a lot of what you said too but like I said before complaining about the changes they've made now is going to do anything the movie has been filmed and is under 5 months now till it's released, the thing with Katara in the trailer honestly is I think they just don't want to give us all that we want to see, they want us to anticipate the next trailer, and I am! lol there are still a lot of unanswered questions but not all will be answered now or even after the next trailer is released, and don't forget dude the creators of the show are the executive producers of the film and Shyamalan has said he wants to get approval from them when he changes stuff so if it's different and the creators of the show have no problem with it then neither do, just see the movie and decide dude you might be surprised, the movie is where all of your questions will be answered

I'm not offended. What you want to do is what you want to do. I respect that. You just sounded an AWFUL like like those close-minded racebenders for a second. I know not all of them are terrible people, but many present themselves as tenacious bigots. I'm just tired of it and wasn't happy about it coming to Movieweb. Apparently you're not like that, so thank you for that.
I also agree with you 90%. I love the show too. A film, however, is a different medium, a chance to fall in love with it all over again in a new way. At least give it a chance. If it's not good, fall back on the series and don't see the future installments of live-Action Airbender.

    @Oblivion330

I agree with 90% of what you have said, I dont like the fact that they changed the races, Made Iroh skinny with dreadlocks, and Katara and Soka are pretty much Albinos. But Im still going to give this film a chance and watch it on opening day because I'm a fan. Oh and I just thought all you The Last Airbender fans would like to know what I found out yesterday, THE MAN WHO HAS NARRATED ALL THE TRAILERS SO FAR, IS AVATAR ROKU. THEY ARE PIECES FROM HIS DIALOGUE IN THE FILM WHEN HE MEETS AANG!

    @ The Fallen:
I have known about the casting for a while, but it's different to actually see the scenes unfolding on the screen. It makes the reality of it all really hit home.

I understand that the movie is supposed to more serious, and I can respect that. My issue is that based on this trailer and what I've heard of this movie elsewhere implies that both the characters' appearances and personalities are drastically different. Plenty of action packed movies have offered glimpses of the humorous elements of the movie (such as "Transformers", if memory serves me right), because doing so shows the potential audience that this isn't just a Super Serious Business movie. Plus, if the film's main focus is supposed to be on action and the war, why wouldn't a clip of Katara fighting be shown - if there are indeed such scenes - since that would attract some interest from the potential female audience.

I understand that not everything in the show can be transferred to the movie - that would make it ten hours long, which is completely unfathomable. I just don't think some of the things the cut out/altered is necessary. Compressing the plot and editing out certain characters is fine and dandy, but changing the characters' race? Changing the Chinese writing to gibberish? Changing the symbols for the elements? Changing the characters' personalities? I mean, when you strip the source material down that much, it might as well be called a spin-off instead of an adaption; it's using the world and the basic concept, but the majority of the details are gone.

I'd like to be able to give it a chance. I miss this series so much I'd love to be able to sit back and enjoy something new from it. But if can't recognize the characters I've grown to love to much, I don't really see a point to it.

    @ Masta_Chiefed
I'm not Asian; I'm actually a Canadian of French/Irish descent. I just don't like seeing the beautifully constructed and carefully researched culture of the Avatar world being altered so entirely for "better profit".

    @ Diaigma

very well put The Fallen, look I'm not really that upset about the film and I haven't been since I found out all that they're going to do, this is a MOVIE any time a film is made from something like a book or show things are going to be missing or a bit different, the whole point of making a film from one of these types is to create something new for the fans and a new audience, Shyamalan is doing great so far as I can tell, this is only the trailer dude, I'm a die hard Airbender fan I love it to death, like The Fallen said man give it a chance before you judge it, did you honestly think that all the Star Trek fans were happy when they were remaking the film? I know some Trekkies who hated the new film, people will view things differently. For me one of my most anticipated films of 2010, definitely my #2 (right behind Inception :P) can't wait and hope to see new stuff for the film soon.

  24. The Narrator: The Better Man

Dude... if your a fan, you know the casting. I mean its been argued about since production began. So now in its final stages thats still what you can complain about... casting because the producers are old school subliminal racists? You have a point, but its not like you just found out. That is if you are the fan you claim to be, you would have known, so you should have expected the casting.

Also, if you could not tell, they are going for a more actiony, serious look in the trailers. I mean did anything seem funny? No. So why would Sokka tell a joke? The trailer is going for "potential" fans who don't know the show and even adult guys who want to see just crazy fight scenes. After all whatever sells is bottom line. But I am sure that we both know, there will be plenty of humor when we see it.

And last thing... Katara doesn't have to discover Aang while being upset. I mean thats probably one of the least significant things for me in the show. As long as they find him I am all good. Its guys like you who didn't like LOTR, because it didn't have every bit of dialogue from the book (or even half), and because it didn't have all those unneeded characters, and some characters were switched with others (Eomer for example) etc.

I say give it a chance man. You seem to have manners, and not like a troll or douche, and your just stating your opinion. But I am asking give it a chance. I am not fully pleased with it either (for reasons I can't state) but at least watch it for your own fans sake then judge it mate. Peace.

  25. Wohitzi

    ...

    What? What is this?

So, Aang isn't discovered because of Katara throwing a rage fit, but because she and Sokka walked on some thin ice? D: Plus, throughout the trailer I don't get the sense that her strength and independence has been kept - there isn't even a single clip of her waterbending!

And Iroh. IS that Iroh? o.O It doesn't look anything like him if it is. I mean, he has dreadlocks.

Actually, none of the characters really look like themselves - or seem to be acting like themselves. Sokka and Katara are unrecognizably pale, Katara seems very pale and helpless throughout it, none of Sokka's upbeat nature has beld through at any point, Aang is constantly pouting, Zuko and Iroh are unrecognizably dark . . . I even had to do a double-take of Yue! And she's a pretty distinct looking character in the show.

Interesting to note that now all the heroes are light while all the bad guys are dark (and wearing turbans, according to one clip). "Save a world consumed by darkness"? Hm. I think I detect a hint of subtext. :/

Everything is just . . . This isn't the show I watched and loved for years. No. I will not be watching this movie, and I will be encouraging everyone I know to do the same.
