Actor Bradley Cooper recently appeared on The Charlie Rose Show to promote his comedy sequel The Hangover Part II, where he revealed his screenwriting ambitions. Cooper indicated on the show that he wrote a spec screenplay for Hyperion, which is based on the Dan Simmons novel series. Here's what he had to say, after he revealed that he also wants to direct, eventually.

"There is this series of science-fiction novels called Hyperion by Dan Simmons, and this is an example of trying to get things started. My friend and I went to (producer) Graham King, who owns the rights to Hyperion, and we wrote a treatment on spec, saying, 'Look, I know this is a very audacious endeavor, but can you just read this spec we wrote? We think we have a way in to tell the story.' Now we're negotiating to write the script for it. Who knows what's going to happen."

We last reported on this project back in January 2009, when Scott Derrickson was attached to direct from a screenplay by Trevor Sands. It isn't known if Scott Derrickson or Trevor Sands are still attached to the project. The story revolves around a space war, centered on the planet Hyperion.

Hyperion comes to theaters in 2013. The film is directed by Scott Derrickson.

@skywise Yeah. It took itself way to seriously and it left out vital plotlines that the second one neds to work.

@jptheredskull Not just that but the series had a vertain ammount of FUN that was sorely lacking from the movie. That was my biggest problem.

@skywise I was asking because I'm putting together a team of sorts to help pen a screenplay for a reboot of the Avatar: The Last Airvender film film series that one hopes to pitch in the not to distant future. Condensing the entire first season down into a 2-3 hour film is no easy task for one man; I say 3 hours because quite frankly, it needs to be Lords of the Rings esque in both length and execution. I hope this doesn't come off like a doing an epic fan fic.

@skywise The Terror would be a good film :). Hey I was wondering, do you like Avatar: The Last Airbender?

As much as i want to see Hyperion (hell i just finished The Terror by the same author) i dont know...i just dont know. But hey, maybe i will be surprised. All i can say is that it is a very deep story and i was hoping someone with a LOT of experience. But who knows. He may be more creative than i am giving him credit. Regardless i want to see this series.

Also, The Terror would make a fantastic movie. I hope it gtets the big screen treatment. Its not what you think.

Cool. Let's see if he can pull it off. We're already going to see Hyperion in Immortals. Would be cool to see a different approach.
