Bradley Cooper wants role in The Great Gatsby
"To me, he's the best character in the book. He's so complicated," Bradley Cooper said. "He's xenophobic, he's an alcoholic, but he also understands some profound stuff about class. Whoever plays it has to take a gentle hand, because it could so easily be stock, where he's a rich jerk you don't identify with at all."

But director Baz Luhrmann recently said that on The Great Gatsby won't be happening anytime soon.
The adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's Long Island-set novel, where Midwesterner Nick Carraway is lured into the lavish world of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. Soon enough, however, Carraway will see through the cracks of Gatsby's nouveau riche existence, where obsession, madness, and tragedy await.
The Great Gatsby comes to theaters December 25th, 2012 and stars Carey Mulligan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Callan McAuliffe, Gemma Ward. The film is directed by Baz Luhrmann.

I don't know much about the Gatsby other than having "read" it in high school, but if the character is anything like I imagine him to be, Cooper is the perfect fit. This movie just got exponentially better if this happens.

I agree 100% , Coop would play a great Tom Buchanan. Honestly though, i think Toby should be replaced. Someone who could play a a better Nick Caraway would be Jake Gyllenhaal.

I really believe that Brad Cooper could pull it off seeing as im a fan of the book and his acting both comedy, action as well as drama. and Im not the biggest fan of Leo but nevertheless Jay Gatsby I also believe he'll pull off.

i think cooper would be a great addition, but a weird combination with di caprio and maguire (who, in and of themselves are an odd pairing, despite being real life friends). still i think coooper would be a good fit.

Personally though, I don't get this. Gatsby has got to be the most overrated book of the 20th century. I'd rather DiCaprio and co. adapt Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises. That would be pleasant.
