Brad Bird Talks The Incredibles 2

Brad Bird doesn't want to rush into making a sequel to The Incredibles
Director Brad Bird made a name for himself with the animated features The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille. His first live-action movie, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, opens on December 21, but there are still fans clamoring for a sequel to The Incredibles. Brad Bird revealed that he would like to make a follow-up to the 2004 Pixar tale, but he needs to find the right story first. Here's what he had to say below.

"I think the reason it hasn't [happened] yet is because the studio would like me to do it, if there were another Incredibles. And I've told them that I'm not really friendly to have someone else take away my child. I would like to think that I have several good ideas that could be incorporated into the next Incredibles, but I don't have a whole movie yet, and the last thing I want to do is do it just because it would open big, or something like that."

The director added he will only do it if he can eclipse the standard set by The Incredibles, much like another Pixar sequel accomplished.

"I want to do it because I have something that will be as good or better than the original. Toy Story 2 was, to me, a perfect sequel, because it absolutely respected the first film but found new places to go without selling out its characters. So if I could come up with an idea that is to Incredibles what Toy Story 2 is to Toy Story, I would do it in a second."

The Incredibles was released November 5th, 2004 and stars Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson, Jason Lee, Dominique Louis, Teddy Newton, Jean Sincere, Eli Fucile. The film is directed by Brad Bird.

    "Toy Story 2" wasn't nearly as good as "Toy Story," so I hope he'd be aiming higher for this.

    Glad to hear that he doesn't want to just make a profit off it it; he wants to make it actually work and be worth praise.

    @junior-roberts agreed.
    man i hope this happens though. one of the few animated movies that i actually came out of the theater begging for a sequel. but man it has to be good b/c it is too good of a franchise to rip it off (um, hello CARS/CARS2).

    Hollywood, as a whole, needs more men of Brad Bird's caliber that understand there's more to a movie than the almighty power of a dollar.

    He is possible the most logical director out there- but a sequel would just make my life seem fulfilled- also this film changed my mind about animiation forever.

    Exactly, why can't every director on the planet think like him? We wouldn't have awful sequels!

    Definitely one of the best Pixar films to date. I would like to see a sequel...but only if it can match (or better) the first film. Good for Brad Bird for only doing it if that's the case.
    To be honest, I want to see Bird take on 1906 next......because his first attempt at live action, Mission Impossible 4, looks amazing!!
