@Bobby-Noell Ok. So it's their fault the shooting happened.. Explain to me which movie caused the Holocaust then? Since the only way people can do unspeakable things by watching a movie about terror... Or the jews back in the days of the Egyptians hey-day... I'm sure their hieroglyphics to beat them without mercy... People choose to be nuts... They will pull their influences from anywhere and I'm sorry, as bad as the shootings were do you think they were as horrific as the concentration camps... They were built well before Nolan was even born and able to make this films... Please speak logically, not just all heart

@ejk1 I like the idea of Batman and Bruce Wayne interacting. Could really characterize the duelality of the characters.

@skywise Since Nolan always alters the characters to make them fit into a real world setting, I came up with an idea using Mr. Freeze as an albino hitman hired by someone to kill Bruce Wayne. So Batman has to protect Bruce, and at the same time find out who hired Freeze. Eventually, It would have been learned that Rutger Hauer's character Earle would have been the assassin's bank roller. It's unpolished, sure, but I think it would have been different and thought provoking.

@ejk1 Absolutly. I have said it many times: How many "super hero saves girl/city" are theygoing to do? enjoyed Thor so much because it really branchd out into a more cosmic setting even though it came back to Earth in the end. Thor wasn't saving anyone but himself in that instance (...and the girl).

Green Lantern had the perfect oppurtunity to go comic but...well what can I say that hasn't already been said.

Granted some heroslend themselves to that type of story, like Bats and Spiderman but as you said; a different approach may have been better.

I just read some of these comments, and they always make me laugh, and give me thoughts. Here are a few:

@Bobby-Noell After the first sentence, everything else read out like an adult's words in Peanuts. "Wah wah wah wah." That's what you sound like, troll.

@TheFury Spider-Man 3 has the biggest box office of any Spider-Man film.

@felipe-11@superman81@skywise I think the issue isn't that people are sick of Batman films, like 81 said, but this story was flawed and too similar to the others. Before the film was even being shot, I brought up that since the first two films were about Gotham, this film should have delved to a more personal level. Instead of Batman saving Gotham, perhaps a Batman saving Bruce, or vice versa, tale would have been better.

@superman81 Big news from Deadline.com. If you haven't heard TDKR came back big time over the weekend and made 10 million dollars more than originally thought and finished the weekend with just over 65 million dollars instead of the estimated 55 million.

@TheFury A poll was done by I believe the Washington Post which said 25 percent of movie goers would stay home because of the shooting. Now folks like us won't stay home because we know the odds of this happening again are beyond slim but there are indeed people out who will stay home.

I asked a friend of mine yesterday if he wanted to see TDKR on Saturday night and he told me he wouldn't because of the shooting. I was shocked.

Also remember TDKR made over 30 million for its midnight and tanked once the story about the shooting came out. Estimates went from close to 200 million or more down to 175 million and finally down to 160 million.

@TheFury: Of course the shooting and the Olympics have a impact on The Dark Knight Rises Gross. Many movie experts thought this would happen. Also so what if the Olympics opened one week after Batman it still has a impact. As for Batman topping The Avengers I don't know any expert that thought that Batman would top The Avengers. The Avengers had the advantage of starting in early May, along with the majority of sales from 3D. Plus it was much kid friendly of a movie, and didn't have the Olympics starting a week after the film open to take away a small percentage of sales.

  11. TheFury

@thedude1. Where ever you heard that from it's bullsh*t, no shooting and damn sure no Olympics kept Batman from being seen by people. First of all the Olympics just started after the opening of Batman. Most importantly let's not forget this is the third installment which they still do perform well, but never better then it's predecessors, for example Matrix Revolutions, Spider Man 3. The Lord of the Ring final installment is like the only exception. And let's not forget that it did have a better opening than the Dark Knight. And it's only trailing The Dark Knight by about 15 million. Plus, I don't know who in there right minds would think this would top Avengers. Your talking about one guy with a second installment that broke box office records going up against, Iron Mans two financially box office successful background, The Hulk, Thor and Captain America's as well. Four against one. Seriously. Maybe if Nolan would have sold out and gave us another guy to play Joker and brought Robin into the mix. Then it would probably done better.

  12. Superman81

@thedude1 yea true I just read the shooting and also the Olympics are keeping people at home as well. Maybe this is do to those reasons. Hopefully this movie will still have legs.

  13. TheDude1

@superman81 This big drop has nothing to do with people being tired of Batman movies. It is all because of the shooting. A poll done this week showed 25 percent of movie goers are still not willing to go back to theaters just yet. Without that big hit TDKR could easily have passed 90 million this weekend.

    10 months agoby @thedude1Flag

  14. Superman81

@thedude1 yea guess it wasn't as anticipated as originally thought. A more than 60% drop off is not good at all. I seen it made 18m Friday so it may finish in the 63-65m range but I now feel after this weekend it will begin its Sharp decline. I think Total Recall will win its weekend. It's a real shame TDKR has produced this way but maybe people are sick of Batman movies.

How can you even blame the terror from the movie on this shooting?? I mean cmon, are you freaking serious?? This was planned for weeks before he did this - and he HADNT EVEN SEEN THE MOVIE YET as it was opening night so he wouldnt have had a clue about the plot or anything... There are far more violent and terrorist movies out then there. Obviously from your comment, you are just a fanboy to Marvel and dont like the rival DC movies...

  19. Bobby Noell

Awful. Dk was only good because of the acting by the late great actor Heath, but it obvisouly conjured up the all to real act of terror that was imposed on those poor people in that theater that fateful morning. Am I the only one who is seeing the obvious deadly but far too obvious connection to the on screen Terrorist plot intertwined with the nutjob that showed true terror to those unsuspecting souls on the fateful showing. I mean most of those people thought it was a Batman gimic planned for the enjoyment of those unforunate souls caught up in that hellhole by a masked man in the shadows using somke bombs to confuse and conceal while he showed just what a fup that whole trilogy ended up with. Everyone who had anything to do with that movie especially the writers, producers, director, actors, and yes even I feel partly responsibe for buying a ticket and watching what a horrible film glorifying TERRORISM can and will do to cause it in the real world. I only wish I could take back my $20 ticket and any and all involvement in it's undue glorification. DC wake up, CN and CB are not "cool" for changing the superhero dynamic from almost no real violence, to it's dark super violent terroristic autrocity. Shame on them, shame on us for supporting them, please pray for those poor people murdered or injured and most assuredely tramutized people who felt the undeniable effect of projecting such blatent terror in a film that was doing it's utmost to try and catch up with a true super hero movie that DKR can only dream of coming close to being in the same ballpark as The Avengers. No way it even comes close to making over 600 million in the US. Shame on them, shame on me, shame on anyone condoning that crappy film and indirectly or in their case directly causing the masacar that fateful morning. DC take some notes from Marvel on how to make a truly great superhero, almost completely non lethal record breaking super blockbuster film. You guys tried so hard to topple The Avengers by 2ding it, using many more theaters, and purposely pointing out that it was the end of CN and CB's involment. Some sick people are sad about that, I praise God for ending it. I hope that they get sued for every last dime, you know the theaters don't even make a cent from ticket sales for the first three weeks, anybody with any decency would donate that money to the victims their sucky movie claimed, because there is no price you can put on the lives taken and the terror caused by that madman's batman copy. I mean come on, a masked gunman hiding in the shadows on opening night using smokescreen and body armor, huh you make the connection. DC needs to watch a few of Marvel's blockbusters to learn how to make a truly entertaining film without terroism as its whole plot line. There is no way it comes close to The Avengers, hopefully it won't even surpass DK. They took one of the most loved and famous superheroes and smeared their hands in blood solely for greed and stardom, and an utterly pathetic chase of a great blockbuster. Please let them learn from their mistakes because no amount of money can bring back the horror that crap ending of Batman brought home to all those who suffered and will always suffer. Go Marvel, DC watch and learn. Feel lucky for your pathetic 2d record, the record that everyone should be focused on is the most useless act of violence directly DIRECTLY caused by your famous "dark new superhero genre". We all should be ashamed, I know I am. What a letdown. No way it comes close to The Avengers, Titantic, or even the much better (even though still too violent) DK. I wonder if those involved in it's lethal message and direct outcome even care how responsible they were. Awful. Go Marvel, DC go home.

I think this will take in way more than 78... I'd dare to say 90, or even 100. I went to see again on Tuesday and it was almost sold out, I'd imagine the weekend will be even crazier.

@superman81@skywise Bane was the perfect villain to have, The Riddler would've ONLY drawn infinite comparisons to the Joker. At least Bane is completely different.I thought he was great, and Hardy nailed it.

Also how the hell would fit a Mr. Freeze in the Nolanverse? It's completely unfeasible.

@superman81 batmn needed a more physical enemy this time out. Scarecrow was psycological and joker anarchist but neither would have been able to go head to head with Bats in a fightwhich is why they relyed on their gangs/drugs. Bane is perfect because He is a physical challenge for Batman while having the brains of a genius.

Also, Bane needed to be redeemed after that one director who wont be named....EVER) pretty much ruined the character.

@mcleve02 Riddler in AC was DC's version of Jigsaw from Saw. I like how they did him but I feel he would have been compared too much like Joker from TDK. If Nolan had used Riddler and cast Leo as him I think it would have been very interesting.
