@bawnian-dexeus Yeah it sucks Looper couldn't get closer to 30 million but with a budget of only 30 million an opening weekend of 21 million is still very nice.
Looper is going to end up with second place with just under 20 million. Hotel Transylvania is estimated to make 40 million this weekend. That sucks big time.
@narrator Yeah I know what you mean, this is definitely more on the "philosophical" side of sci-fi, which is what I consider awesome, others might be dissapointed if they're going in expecting 2 hours of gunshots and explosions. This has just the right amount of everything.
I think you'll like Dredd, it's definitely more action oriented, but not to the point where it's stupid, and it's got great performances and pure audiovisual eye-candy.
@bawnian-dexeus Like the Narrator said, it's definitely thought provoking, and there's plenty of nice time traveling dilemas to tease your brain.
I felt it was, @bawnian-dexeus. It asks the question of what's the right thing, ya know? One person might kill to do what he feels is right while another might die to protect what's right, etc. It's full of ambiguous characters that make you wonder what's really important in life and what would you do for it. That's as thought provoking as a film needs to be, really. Simple idea but an extremely well done execution of it. Beware the ending, you might be a bit disappointed like some were, but I don't doubt that you'll love the film.
I've yet to see Dredd, but came close yesterday. I hope it picks up soon as well, @felipe-11. As for Looper, I think the film, having been praised and enjoyed so early one, might disappoint a few who are expecting the wrong kind of awesome. Know what I mean?
Well, after tonight, I think kids will take this weekend. Plus, with a few hundred more theater openings and the obnoxious 3D, it will get a bump. I could be wrong, but it's a far more possible scenario.
Looper was fantastic. Not "mind blowing" or full of twists that most films seem to hinge upon, so I hoppe nobody goes in expecting that type of film. It was an intense film that was excellently executed all around and one of the finest neo-noir films of it's kind. I'm going to wait until Blu-Ray to see it again, but so far "refrigerator logic" has been kind to the movie and I'm not regretting my praise of it.

@thedude1@narrator Agreed, it's in my top 3 films of the year, instant sci-fi classic.
I'm just sad the box office performance for Dredd isn't looking good at all, I really want a sequel...

Hoping Looper makes a little more than $19 mill. Easily the best looking movie on this list.

I think it'll make a little more than 19 million. Not a whole lot, it just seems low to me.
