BOX OFFICE PREDICTIONS: Will Jackass 3D Rocket to the Top of the Charts This Weekend?

PREDICTED WEEKEND BOX OFFICE

Last weekend, most Hollywood insiders predicted that Katherine Heigl's new romantic comedy Life as We Know It would take the top spot at the box office. But the movie came up short and failed to find as large an audience as was expected. While David Fincher's The Social Network held the number one spot for the second week in a row. The "Facebook Movie" will have stiff competition this weekend from two highly anticipated new movies, Red starring Bruce Willis, which is based on the popular comic book and Jackass 3D, the final film in the big screen trilogy based on the groundbreaking MTV reality series.

Predicted to debut at number one this week is the third installment of the film adaptation of the popular MTV reality series Jackass, Jackass 3D. In the film, Johnny Knoxville (The Dukes of Hazzard) returns for more punishment along with his friends Bam Margera, Steve-O, Chris Pontius and Jason Acuña. Currently the movie has an average rating of a 5.0 on our site. Out of the ten people who have rated the film, ten of them have given it five stars while the teaser trailer for the movie has had over 70,000 views. Here is what one of our readers had to say about the new movie: "This movie is going to be funny!" The movie is predicted to earn $28.1 million this weekend in its debut.

Predicted to debut at number two this week is the new action-comedy Red, which is based on the graphic novel by Warren Ellis and stars an all-star cast that includes Emmy winners Bruce Willis (Live Free or Die Hard) and Mary-Louise Parker (Red Dragon), Oscar winners Morgan Freeman (The Dark Knight), Helen Mirren (National Treasure: Book of Secrets), Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws) and Ernest Borgnine (Escape From New York), Oscar nominee John Malkovich (Jonah Hex), Karl Urban (Star Trek), Julian McMahon (Fantastic Four) and Brian Cox (X2: X-Men United). Currently the movie has an average rating of a 4.2 on our site. Out of the thirteen people who have rated the film, six of them have given it five stars, while the teaser trailer for the movie has had over 5,000 views. Here is what our official reviewer had to say about the new movie: "A smart, fun and action-packed adaptation of the popular Warren Ellis comic book with fantastic performances from an amazing cast, which includes Bruce Willis, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren." The movie is predicted to earn $22.5 million this weekend in its debut.

Predicted to fall two places from last week to number three is the new film from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button director David Fincher called The Social Network. The movie, which is about the founding of Facebook stars a cast of excellent young actors that includes Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland), Andrew Garfield (Never Let Me Go), Rooney Mara (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Rashida Jones (I Love You, Man) and Justin Timberlake (Alpha Dog). While the movie dropped nearly 31.2% last week from its debut the previous week, it actually earned roughly $5,576 on each of its 2,771 screens for a weekend total of $15.4 million. Now in only two weeks the film has made nearly $46 million and is predicted to earn back its entire $50 million production budget this weekend with an additional $10.8 million.

Predicted to slip two spots from last week to number four is the new romantic comedy about parenting called Life as We Know It. The film stars Katherine Heigl (Killers), Josh Duhamel (When in Rome), Josh Lucas (Hulk), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) and Jean Smart (Garden State). Last week the movie made $4,605 on each of its 3,150 screens for an opening weekend total of about $14.5 million, which is nowhere close to recouping the film's $38 million production budget. The movie is predicted to earn an additional $7.9 million this weekend.

Rounding off the top five and predicted to drop two places from last week is is Walt Disney Pictures new sports film Secretariat, based on the true story of the triple-crown winning racehorse. The film stars Oscar nominees Diane Lane (Unfaithful), John Malkovich (In the Line of Fire) and James Cromwell (Babe), as well as Dylan Walsh (Nip/Tuck), Kevin Connolly (Entourage), Fred Dalton Thompson (Die Hard 2: Die Harder) and Scott Glenn (The Hunt for Red October). Last week the movie made $3,072 on each of its $4,132 screens for an opening weekend total of about $12.6 million, which is a far cry from earning back its $35 million production budget. The movie is predicted to earn an additional $7.8 million this weekend.

The rest of the top ten films at the box office this weekend are predicted to look like this:

Predicted to slip back two places from last week to number six is the latest film from visionary director Zack Snyder (Watchmen, Dawn Of The Dead) called Legend of The Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. The computer animated film about a group of heroic owls stars an all-star cast of voice actors including Oscar winners Helen Mirren (The Queen) and Geoffrey Rush (Shine) as well as Hugo Weaving (The Matrix), Sam Neill (Jurassic Park), Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom), Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Jim Sturgess (21), Emilie de Ravin (Lost) and Abbie Cornish (Sucker Punch). While the movie dropped nearly 36.7% last week from its debut the week before, it actually earned roughly $2,136 on each of its 3,225 screens for a weekend total of $6.8 million. To date, the movie has earned just under $40 million, which is about half of the film's $80 million production budget. The movie is predicted to earn an additional $4.4 million this weekend.

Predicted to fall only one place from last week to number seven is the latest film from actor turned director Ben Affleck (Gone Baby Gone), which is already earning Oscar buzz called The Town. The bank robbery film that takes place in Boston stars a stellar cast of actors which in addition to Affleck himself includes Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Blake Lively (Gossip Girl), Rebecca Hall (Please Give) and Oscar winner Chris Cooper (Adaptation). While the movie dropped nearly 34.2% last week from the week before, it earned roughly $2,357 on each of its 2,720 screens for a weekend total of $6.4 million. Now in just under a month the movie has made almost $74 million, which earns back its entire $37 million production budget and then some. The movie is predicted to earn an additional $4.2 million this weekend.

Predicted to drop three spots from last week to number eight is is the new film from "master of horror" director Wes Craven called My Soul to Take. The movie stars Nick Lashaway, Max Thieriot, Denzel Whitaker, Zena Grey, Jessica Hecht, Emily Meade and Frank Grillo. Last week the movie made $2,660 on each of its 2,572 screens for an opening weekend total of about $6.8 million, which wasn't even close to earning back its $25 million production budget. The movie is predicted to earn an additional $3.1 million this weekend.

Predicted to slip only one place from last week to number nine is the Scarlet Letter themed high school comedy Easy a starring Emma Stone (Zombieland, Superbad). The film's talented cast also includes Oscar nominees Stanley Tucci (The Lovely Bones), Patricia Clarkson (Pieces of April) and Thomas Haden Church (Sideways) as well as Lisa Kudrow (Friends), Penn Badgley (Gossip Girl), Amanda Bynes (Hairspray) and screen legend Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange). While the movie dropped nearly 36.4% last week from the previous week, it earned roughly $1,507 on each of its 2,847 screens for a weekend total of $4.2 million. Now in just under a month the movie has made almost $48 million, which earns back its entire $8 million production budget and a healthy profit. The movie is predicted to earn an additional $2.6 million this weekend.

Finally, predicted to fall three places from last week to number ten is Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, the long-awaited sequel to director Oliver Stone's iconic '80s movie Wall Street. The film stars Michael Douglas reprising his Oscar winning role as Gordon Gekko and also features a talented cast of actors including Shia LaBeouf (Transformers), Josh Brolin (Jonah Hex), Carey Mulligan (An Education), Susan Sarandon (The Lovely Bones), Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon) and Charlie Sheen (Two and a Half Men). While the movie dropped nearly 54.0% last week from the previous week, it earned roughly $1,627 on each of its 2,829 screens for a weekend total of $4.6 million. Now in just three weeks the movie has made over $43 million but is still short of earning back its entire $70 million production budget. The movie is predicted to earn an additional $2.3 million this weekend. Yep the record for biggest opening in October is Scary Movie 3 with 48.1 million. Jackass 3D could possibly make it if it has a big Saturday turnout. But we will have to wait and see.

It won't go that high. Prolly around $45-$46. But still. If my memory serves me right, that's right around the highest October weekend of all time? Which I think is Scary Movie 3 or Shark Tale.
