The Jim Carrey comedy Yes Man had audiences saying "Yes!" this weekend, as the film opened at number one on the box office charts with $18.1 million. Not a stingy scrooge, this funny vehicle for Carrey's humor slid over and made cozy room for two other brand new releases this weekend. The Will Smith mystery movie Seven Pounds pulled in a nifty $16 million take for second place, while the family friendly animated film The Tale of Despereaux slid into third with $10 .5 million.

The Vince Vaughn/Reese Witherspoon holiday comedy Four Christmases continued to make noise, dropping down into fifth place with another $7.7 million to its name. That brings its cumulative take to $100 million, solidifying it as a late in the year hit for Warner Brothers. And the highly touted indie Slumdog Millionaire continued to pull in a strong audience. It took in $3.1 million on just 589 screens for eighth place. The film with the highest per screen average was the Mikey Rourke comeback film The Wrestler, which garnered $52,250 on each of its four screens for a total take of $209,000.

Even more new films are opening this Wednesday to take advantage of the Christmas holiday, so look for next week's box office to be peppered with new hits including Adam Sandler's Bedtime Stories and the big screen adaptation of Marley & Me starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston.

    Maybe not, but I have a soft spot for "jump-around" time pieces. Like Forest Gump! So far it, Doubt, and Valkyrie has decent reviews. If Doubt were showing nationally, I'd see that in a heartbeat.

    I doubt CCoBB will even mount to number 2.

    I saw the: "The Tale of Despereaux" this weekend! It was OK! Cute and had a message. Not a great animated film by any means. My Final Rating: C+!

    Entertainment Weekly Magazine lists "Seven Pounds" on the "Worst" films of 2008...I don't care for Will Smith as an actor, But still I was going to see this film, Until "Several" publications listed on "The Worst Films of 2008" lists!!

    I can't wait to see: "The Wrestler"...I have heard so many good things about this film & the film won the Golden Lion Award at its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Darren Aronofsky is 1 of my favorite directors!

    "The Day the Earth Stood Stil" has received generally negative reviews. Based on 140 reviews collected by Rotten Tomatoes, only 12% of reviewers gave the film positive reviews. Its consensus stated the majority found the film "heavy on special effects, but without a coherent story at its base, [the film] is subpar re-imagining of the 1951 science-fiction classic"

    Well Zap, my friend, i did see 7 pounds. To tell you the truth, the first ever movie i actually walked out on. It'll probably leave me single, too, because my girl was still in the bathroom, when i left. I with you Diaigma for the Spirit, but i have a bad feeling that that Tom Cruise sh*t is going to take home the glory.

    Not surprised. The question is, who will rank in the Christmas bonus?

    Valkyrie, CCoBB, or Spirit? Place your bets folks!

    For the sake of argument, I choose Spirit, though I will be seeing CCoBB or Valkyrie first.

    Of course Jim Carrey is #1.
    Why so bent out of shape over Will Smith, Killerman. Did you even see Seven Pounds. Despite reviews, it was a great movie.

    {Do the movies that come out on Christmas (Thursday) count with next weekends box office numbers?}

    I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! Everyone was going to say "yes" to Jim Carrey, and i knew The Day the Earth Stood still wouldn't be able to hold out, even to number 2 but 4. Will smith can take Seven Pounds of Kiss My ASS. What has this guy turned into? Congratulations QOS, for staying in the top ten. Just seven more million and it'll surpass Royale.
