@felipe-11 Well, now that you put it that way, I'm sad it didn't do better, lol.

@thedude-abides Well, I love the Wachowskis, so it was a day-one for me. And I thought it was one of the year's best. Haven't read the reviews though, but I've heard they're mixed.

Either way I'm sad it flopped. This was an important film in terms of it being the highest budget indie film, from a german production company. Had it done well, maybe more independent/foreign movies would start getting bigger budgets and wider releases.

@felipe-11 LOL. Nah, man. I hate RT. I was merely quoting it in this instance because I think it more accurately reflects the film based on the majority of the reviews I've read, namely Rolling Stone.

And no, I've not seen it as of yet. But, as I've said numerous times before, it's the Wachowskis. What more is there to know? :P

@huntsman I know, but it just seems like people are not giving it a chance and just declaring it a bad film based on how it's doing at the box office, when it is actually a good film. They focus on the negative news when they should be focusing on the positive. And like you mentioned, the Twilight movies do so well and a film like this doesn't get a big crowd. I just don't understand it. I guess most people didn't like it from the beginning and want it to fail? At least Flight is doing well and getting a good word of mouth. I hope Cloud Atlas does well overseas. I think it will. It deserves to. @thedude-abides I haven't seen the reviews it's been getting, but if they are painting it as an Oscar contender, then at least something positive is happening for this wonderful film and IMO not misleading at all.

@gumperman: They go by the budget of the film. The budget of Cloud Atlas is around 120 million. It only got around 9.5 opening weekend and just 5.3 million. Domestically I don't think it will come close to making it's money back not with Skyfall, the crappy Twilight film, Lincoln and a bunch of other major fall films. That is why people are calling it a bomb. If a film fails to come close to getting it's budget back then it's a bomb. Maybe it will do better overseas, but I don't think so since it's only gotten around 19 million so far. I really liked the film giving it 4.5 stars and wished it had done better, but the film is a failure.

Well, at least these predictions list Cloud Atlas in the right place this time, last week it was 2nd of the weekend when listed here as 3rd, but it did make more then predicted on here. What I don't understand is, why do people make judgement on films by how much money they make at the box office and not on the film itself? I mean people were calling Cloud Atlas a bomb the first weekend it came out and it had only been out 2 or 3 days, so how can that be a bomb?

@thedude-abides Have you actually seen the movie, or are you just making assumptions and hating on a movie based purely on what the ever-holy RottenTomatoes says?

[My respect towards you from now on will depend solely on your answer to this question]

    :D

@felipe-11 I feel like the some of the reviews it's been getting have been misleading, painting it is an Oscar contender as opposed to the 62% (RT), 5 million dollar bomb that it is.

That being said @corey I agree, I loved Wreck-It Ralph and just saw Flight and it was surprisingly a very good film. Only surprisingly so, because I didn't think they made the movie look that interesting from the trailers, but I love Zemeckis so I had to see it. And it was so good. I wish Cloud Atlas was doing better, it is a very enjoyable film, but whatever. I have yet to see Argo, but finally saw Looper. I am so excited for Skyfall, like ya'll! :) And Lincoln.

Again, @movieweb, these are only estimates and you should note them as such. You'll have to wait until tomorrow for the actual box office totals.

Just saw Wreck-It Ralph, very enjoyable, had a great time. I hope it continues it's great box office run. Skyfall next week!!!! Also looking forward to Lincoln as well, even though it won't be entirely historically accurate the acting is the main reason I'm going. What a great way to kick off the end of year movie season

I think Skyfall will blow past expectations with a debut of $90+. I wouldn't be surprised to see it break $100 mil.
