BOX OFFICE BEAT DOWN: Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail Takes the Top Spot Again with Another $16.5 Million

Weekend Box Office:

1) Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail $16.5 million
2) Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience $12.7 million
3) Slumdog Millionaire $12.1 million
4) Taken $9.9 million
5) He's Just Not That Into You $5.8 million
6) Paul Blart: Mall Cop $5.6 million
7) Coraline $5.2 million
8) Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li $4.6 million
9) Confessions of a Shopaholic $4.4 million
10) Fired Up $3.8 million

The Jonas Brothers were no match for Madea this weekend. Tyler Perry's latest dramedy Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail managed to stay in the top spot for a second weekend in a row. It pulled in another $16.5 million for a cumulative take of $64 million. That makes it the highest grossing film of Perry's career so far. Disney's Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience came in second place with $12.7 million. That's only half of what Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds made when it was released around this same time last year. Maybe interest in Disney's teen trio is waning? We'll have to wait and see how Hannah Montana: The Movie fares when it is released later this year.

This week's only other major release didn't fare quite as well as Madea and the Jonas Brothers. Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li dropped in at number at 8, managing to muster up a meager $4.6 million. 20th Century Fox's attempt to restart a big screen version of Capcom's popular video game faltered, and I doubt we will be seeing these characters on the big screen again any time soon. Wayne Kramer's latest thriller Crossing Over, which stars Harrison Ford, opened on nine screens for a cumulative take of $75,600. Though, the film with the highest per screen average was Warner Brothers' IMAX documentary Under the Sea 3D, which took in $563,000 on 51 screens. In theaters for three weeks now, the film has made $2.4 million.

Next weekend marks the debut of Zack Snyder's long awaited graphic novel adaptation Watchmen. It will surely beat out Madea and those pesky Jonas Brothers. If they don't, they've got problems.

Way to go Tyler Perry. You 2 amuse me, hating on this guy. Just cause you didn't like it doesn't mean people are declining in IQ, friend. But don't you guys worry. Watchmen is coming. It'll definitely be number 1.

The fact that "The Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert" and "Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail" are in the top two spots, shows how people of this day and age have begun to decline rapidly in the area that we call IQ.

    -.-
