@brian: Hmmm..well to sort of poke fun at Rotten Tomatoes, how about for a great movie we have a "Fresh Batch of Popcorn", a good movie we have "A Couple of Beverages" and for a bad movie, "A Bag filled with Burnt, Black Popcorn"! Hehe. :P

@corey Thx. Trying to actually come up with some icons that signify our reviews here on MW. Kinda like how Rotten has 3 icons for an extremely good movie, a good movie and a bad movie. Let me know if you guys have any ideas!

I like the new percentage for MW. The star is cool. Nice @movieweb @brian.

crazy prediction, this weekend will be Thor or Brides Maids. throwing it out there, i think Brides Maids is a sleeper. looks like a kinda raunchy chick flick that might actually be funny for guys too. it will have female appeal which is always a big draw for the box office. priest won't do much at all. it reminds me of I Am Legend, but doesn't have the big name actor.

Only films for this weekend to compete against Thor is Fast Five, Priest and Hesher, and I'll also include Rio...It's been doing it's great.

@superman81 you make a good point with fast five, but you have to understand that, it has a franchise, the fifth in a series, and so it has a built in fanbase... thor has a geek fanbase. also fast five had star power... yes it seems that the only films that do well for the stars is the "furious" films but it is what it is.

From what I have read studios want to use 3D more cause it keeps people from bootlegging. I know it does no good if u have it come out in 2D as well but that's what I read. Maybe u will see more markets start to only have the 3D version. Most boot leg movies I see are from over seas anyways. So jacking up prices here ain't helping

Yeah 3d schedule had less waiting period, the 2d if miss one from that time you had to wait 2hours or more unfair.

I let everyone decide on this one. Basically Thor was not available in 2D in many areas. People did not want to spend on 3D. Lost money. So watcha think?

@messenger - well, this IS a box office article :P
@superman81 - I see where you're coming from. Thank you. Everyone has opinions and I can respect that. Stating opinions as fact is a tough sell when it conflicts with the established/accepted facts amongst a film buff community such as this. I like a healthy discussion, so I appreciate your turning back to civility :)
@moviegeek - pummeled? More like crash and burn! Agreed, unlikely . . .

Surprised Thor didn't make more than Fast Five, especially with the 3D bump. But I'm sure it will hold strong given the positive word of mouth, at least for the next two weeks until Pirates comes out.

@diaigma, @moviegeek I never meant to come off as saying movies live or die based on domestic alone. I know movies like Avatar which 72% of its money was international and Harry Potter and other movies live off international money. I was just saying I felt let down that it didn't make more. I like to see big money in the 2 big markets being America and Canada. Thor is a success and I never meant to come off like it wasn't. And as for Transformers vs HP, transformers has dominated every summer it came out and HP will rule over seas again but I don't think it will come close to beating T3. T3 might be the best reviewed once it comes out, but there are lots of Haters who only see it as a robot movie. I know people hated T2 but from what I seen so far Michael bay went all out this time.

Okay you guys aren't giving Thor enough Credit... Thor as a superhero flick on the big screen is new to pretty much anyone who hasn't watched a marvel cartoon or read a comic book. It has made 66 million domestically in it's opening weekend... now in comparison... Batman begins which had all those previous bat films in it's history, had a 48 million dollar opening weekend... and finished at around 370 million internationally. Thor is already at 240 mil internationally, if Battle LA which was not very popular in theaters could finish at 200 mil this year, I'll wager, that Thor finishes at least around 350/370 if not above 400mil, and considering Thor had a 150mil dollar budget, the same as batman begins... that's still a box office success by any account.

@moviegeek - I'll have to wait and see on that one. Those are the two films that will butt heads for B.O. dominance this Summer. Looking forward to the show :)
