@ChiRep-1 Maybe the oscar buzz and theater boost can help Hugo? The actual budget is $185M (Boxoffice.com) which includes distribution cost and everything. I find it weird that there is no foreign gross for this movie (Boxofficemojo.com)...

@2movieguys That's right, I forgot it was expanding into more theatres. Maybe that will boost it a little through the holiday season.

@shuabert Yeah seeing that Hugo's budgeted at $170 million I can't see is having a chance to break even which is a shame given the ensemble cast and holiday timing. =/ Let's hope Tin Tin has better fortune.

@shuabert Seriously. He's actually pretty damn sad. Perhaps instead of @TheFury his name should be @thegrammaticalerror.

@ejk1 Yeah. I also saw on another thread where you used "they're" instead of "their," so that means you made the same mistake multiple times with three different words. I guess what I'm getting at is that you should understand the basics of the English language before calling anyone an idiot. Now, when you're in class tomorrow, ask your teacher how to differentiate between "their," "there," and "they're." It shouldn't be hard for you to understand; I don't recall second grade being all that difficult, hahaha. Man, you must hate me. I mean, you came to MW thinking you were smart stuff, and all weekend long you have just looked like a total tool. Keep trying though, Sisyphus. You may eventually get that rock to the hilltop. Lol Yeah your dumb alright.

@TheFury "No you idiot. There wasn't any worldwide releases that why."

That was what your response was to me. Now let's look at some of your other posts here on this thread, shall we?

"The Muppets, with there decent numbers, are pretty much dated. There budget was only like 42 mil, so not so hard a task to take."

Don't you mean "The Muppets, with 'their' decent numbers, are pretty much dated. 'Their' budget was only like 42 mil, so not a hard task to take?"

@bawnian-dexeus I'm trying to forget about Chipwrecked, kids these days have such poor choice in movies when they could see a brilliant film like Tintin.

@mclovin New Years Eve will break the Twilight curse before those two films.

  17. TheFury

@josh Yes your right. But the studios were expecting far bigger numbers for this. The demand for Muppets with younger audience isn't there and that is the problem. The Muppets, with there decent numbers, are pretty much dated. There budget was only like 42 mil, so not so hard a task to take. The studios were expecting big money while making it for cheap.

@TheFury What do you mean no one cares? Numbers-wise and critically, the Muppets has been successful. It's been in theatres for less than two weeks, and it's already made its budget back.

@ChiRep-1 Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Hugo, which looks unlikely to break even in theatres. Sad, but given Scorsese's hugely successful track record (including Shutter Island, which was more commercially than critically successful), I doubt this one film is going to hurt his influence with the studios. Also, who knows, the movie has such good word of mouth it could stick around for a while.

This is hilarious. People actually think the Muppets should be number one. You people just can't get the hint. No one cares about the Muppets anymore. Maybe they should have dumped the puppets and made them Pixar animated. Would have disappointed many fans but would have definitely beaten out Twilight. Don't worry. Next week, I'm sure it will be topped. Sadly that movie will be New Years Eve. Romance, date movie=number one.

Too bad for the Muppets. I'm sure it will level out as the month goes on.
