2) Step Brothers $30 million
3) Mamma Mia! $17.8 million
4) The X-Files: I Want to Believe $10.2 million
5) Journey to the Center of the Earth $9.4 million

10) Wanted $2.7 million

Another week, another set of records for The Dark Knight. The Christopher Nolan sequel topped the box office for the second week in a row, taking in an estimated $75.6 million in its second weekend in release. It also set records for fastest to $200 million, $250 million and $300 million and it also set 5-day, 6-day, 7-day, 8-day, 9-day and 10-day records along with the record for the best opening week (Friday to Thursday. The film currently has an overall gross of $314.2 million.

Two newcomers made the top 10, but were severely overshadowed by The Dark Knight. Step Brothers, the new Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly comedy, took a distant second place with an estimated $30 million. The film is almost halfway to its $65 million budget and the film turned in a solid performance with a $9,696 per-screen average from 3.094 theaters. The other newbie didn't fare so well.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe opened in fourth place with an estimated $10.2 million, behind the holdover Mamma Mia!, still performing strongly with $17.8 million, just a 35.6% drop from last weekend's debut. The X-Files: I Want to Believe could only manage a $3,202 per-screen average from 3,185 theaters and it might even be a struggle to get to the break-even point of $30 million.

In limited release, one newbie fared decently amongst the blockbusters. Brideshead Revisited took in an estimated $332,000 from just 33 theaters, good for a solid $10,060 per-screen average. The film is set to expand to an estimated 225 theaters this coming weekend.

Next week sees the return of another popular franchise with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor along with Swing Vote in a semi-wide release. In limited release, the horror film Midnight Meat Train will hit select theaters.

The Dark Knight was released July 18th, 2008 and stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Monique Gabriela Curnen. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

I knew The Dark Knight would still do great. It has a chance to make more than Mummy 3 because it's not getting as much attention as any other movie and it really doesn't feel like a mummy movie.Besides,I'm finally seeing The Dark Knight this week.

WATCHMAN.... I don't think people went to the first two movies to watch Rachel Weisz or Arnold Vosloo. They went because of Brendan Fraser and his kickass character Rick O'Connell.... and that Mummy Kickasser is back!

After watching the trailer, I know that its gonna be action packed... just like Mummy 2... and that baby opened up with 68 million the first weekend and topped 200 million overall.

Don't know if it can match that, but it can match the first Mummy... 43 million opening weekend and 155 million overall. Its gonna be close for the top spot this weekend between Mummy and Dark Knight.

rarebloodtype... I haven't seen Mamma Mia either, but that's mainly because I don't like musicals. But unless you've seen it... you really can't say you HATE it. And... if you HAVE seen it and HATE it, then you shouldn't say "who in their right mind would go see that stupid ass movie"... cause you just did... unless you WEREN"T in your right mind.

Anyway, I don't necessarily like musicals, but sometimes there are some gems like Grease, Hairspray, and the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show. I didn't really care too much for that last one, but MANY do like it.

And don't tell me you didn't like LION KING, LITTLE MERMAID, ALADDIN, and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST when you were growing up. Yes, they were animated movies, but musicals nonetheless. I bet you sang some of those songs too... "Hakuna Matata... The Lion Sleeps Tonight... Circle of Life... Under the Sea... Go On And Kiss the Girl... Gaston... Be Our Guest. You know the ones... don't lie. LOL

moviemaniack... you've been wrong about some big movies.. but... this time, you may be on to something. I see the Dark Knight falling about 35 to 40 percent this coming weekend... giving it a total in the 40 millions. The Mummy 3 MAY surpass that. The first Mummy made 43 millions while the second movie surpassed that with 68 million.

Dark Knight's reign at the top spot MAY be at an end. BUT MAY reclaim it next week... if it loses it this week at all. Which is still in doubt.

Probably as of Tuesday morning, The Dark Knight has probably past Transformers in the all time domestic gross.
I hope it reaches the 462 million by the end of its cycle and at least takes the number 2 spot all time domestic

Came real close with the Dark Knight, Wall-E,, Hell Boy, Wanted, and Get Smart. Fairly close with Step Brothers, Mama Mia, Hanc*ck, and Journey. Totally overestimated X-Files and underestimated Space Chimps... f*cking monkeys.

Awesome. Maybe finally now the industry will start valuing the creativity of talented directors instead of constantly relying on the same gimmicks to attract crowds. Everyone I know that has seen the movie wants to go see it again so that just shows how profitable it's being.
