I recently watched the movie "Super 8". I really really wanted to like this movie, but honestly it was a major let down. Once again, the trailer to the movie was a lot better then the movie itself. But what I did like about it was the nostalgia that it had, taking place in 1979. Story wise, it fell short. 2 1'2 * out of 5.
It took 49 million to make this movie so its all good. It deserves number one! And X-men right next to it. This is the best box-office standings for the rest of the year and im talking movie quality not money
Well it looks like the skeptical critics and experts were wrong about Super8, it did a lot better than expected with it's $37million debut, I'm sure it'll continue to be a huge hit, like it deserves to be, can't wait to see it.
Guys this is a strong opening. It's almost exactly in line with District 9 and Battle: LA. Glad to see this posted good numbers. It definitely deserves it.
Spielberg still has talent and J.J. Abrams makes solid flicks that lens flare effect though gets distracting but I do love 'Super 8' still next stop: Star Trek 2 in 2012
I wish Panda would do better, but at least the foreign box office is helping it. Can't believe people are still seeing gayovers. Ah well, First Class and Super 8 are on top. Glad Thor has managed to keep hammering in some money
Super 8 was a fun little popcorn flick and easily as entertaining as X-Men was but I think Thor has been the best movie for me so far this year but Green Lantern may change my mind next week!
Considering Super 8 only cost a reported $50 million to produce, an opening like that is quite good. It will definitely have enough legs domestically to recoup its budget in the next few weeks.
@thedude-abides It'll prob remain performing as an underdog. Like you said, word of mouth can keep it going, but I wouldn't be surprised if it only made slightly over 150 million domestic, if that. Not sure it'll even reach that, considering each weekend the number drops by almost half for most movies.
Green Lantern will easily knock it out this coming Friday. Even if the movie gets panned critically, it's got that big blockbuster element to it that people eat up, so it will make money.
That's it?!! That's a huge letdown in my opinion considering how great a film it was. I know 37 million is no small potatoes, and I'm sure it will only continue to rake in the big bucks after word of mouth spreads about how good it is.
But with the marketing this film received, coupled with the fact that it's clearly the best movie of the summer and its opening weekend numbers are getting doubled by inferior films, to me, or at least for me, that's a letdown. 45 - 55 million would've made more sense, in my opinion
