@jayaottley Yes, that is true, i would go for the better deal and get the best bargain. But honestly, i would only do that if both stores are selling the same dvd pack or in my case the same Blu-ray pack, with the same special features or more special features on the Blu-ray release that has the better deal involved, not just in terms of its price though.
@themoviefanatic in lament terms @bawnian-dexeus is actually right. While you get it partially you don't get the concept/ideal of the point I'm making, because it will happen that way.
Any normal person would go for the better deal and get the best bargain for example you see a dvd set you really want in two different stores and let's say the difference between the prices is $10, you going to get the better deal, because your saving yourself $10.
@jayaottley they need days like that here in the US. It would be good way to drum up business during the weekdays and people that save on movie tickets are more likely to purchase concessions which is where the movie theater makes its money
@themoviefanatic Well consider that on Orange Wednesday its buy one ticket and get the second ticket free, if you have the Orange Wednesday code, so therefore the film will lose money on its opening day here in the UK.
Do this math lets say there are 200 people in a screening of SWATH and they had Orange Wednesday codes, that 400 tickets and then 50 people bought tickets without the code. That is 250 tickets sold in a screen which has just fitted a capacity of 450 people with the profit loss of 200 tickets at say 10 GBP to 15 GBP, a pop.
@themoviefanatic Dude you have to read the comment more clearly and concise, I'm stating that SWATH on its opening day here in the UK will potentially lose halve its profit due to it being released on a Wednesday.
In which over here in the UK we have something called Orange Wednesday which is 2 for 1 cinema tickets every Wednesday with the mobile network Orange
@corey Ahhhhh completely forgot about Madagascar 3, but then again I never knew it release date, therefore it will definately be a close shave between Madagascar 3 and Prometheus
@superman81 SWATH & Prometheus were set to come out in the same weekend and day, but due to Prometheus being more popular and more in demand than SWATH... It was decided that SWATH would be moved forward 2 days in advance.
So SWATH is released here on the 30th May and Prometheus on June 1st.
@jayaottley I don't see a chance in hell of Prometheus beating out Madagascar 3. A animated kid's flick hasn't come out for a while and this is a sequel to two previous films that kids have enjoyed. Not to mention, Madagascar has a TV show on Nick now so that channel has been advertising the movie a lot. Kids who watch the show will want to see the movie. I'm telling ya....Madagascar 3 is gonna own next weekend. I hope Prometheus can beat it, but my head tells me otherwise. We'll see..
@jayaottley Honestly, i doubt that Snow White and the Huntsman will lose money in the box office, just because Pronetheus is coming out. If anything, i think they will both do extremely well in the theaters when they're released. Also, They both look like really good movies.
@cheetoboy I was just going by what BOM said in an article this Sunday. The last couple of weeks they have said that even with Avengers doing so good, ticket sales were still down. I guess it depends on where you get your info.
@superman81, I remember reading an article earlier this year that movie going had increased this year by merely 30% due to the unexpected successes of Safe house, Journey2, The Vow, all of these of course opened on the same weekend and they all made over $100 million domestically, also The Lorax, 21 jump street, and the unexpected mega hit The Hunger Games, and minor but still back to back hits The Devil Inside, Contraband, Underworld Awakening, The Grey, The Woman In Black, and Chronicle both of which opened to over$20million in the same weekend, 2011 did not have a start like that. But the only recent plunge was Memorial day weekend because last year Hangover part2 and Kung Fu Panda2 had huge debuts and they were highly anticipated sequels, MIB3 was said to be the sequel no one really wanted because of how disappointing part2 was, but it is still doing solid with many saying it is way better than2, now if you add the Monster behemoth Avengers into this, then thats already a good start for 2012 to outdo 2011, just wait until TDKR, The Hobbit, Prometheus, Django Uncahined, The Amazing Spiderman, and many other big films to come out, it will be a great year for movies.
Prometheus will do exceedingly well, even though it is only being released on British soils first on June 1st. I work in the busiest cinema in the whole of the UK and our midnight sales for Prometheus are berserk, nearly on scale with the midnight screenings of Avengers believe it or not, and my cinema seats the capacity of 3000+, which came to all of us as a shock for an R-rated flick. As well let's not forget that Prometheus is also in 3D and in IMAX
As well double the fact that SWATH in the UK is being released tomorrow which is an Orange Wednesday, it will lose money since its being released on a Wednesday.
But if it is the case that Prometheus is to be released on June 8th in the U.S, then SWATH will take this weekend's box office and then be taken to second place when Prometheus lands.
Saw it, it was a good movie, Way better than the second, Perfect Summer movie, I am glad they made a better MIB movie. Avengers in second is amazing since people seen it two or three times already and for it to come in 2 , that is awesome, most studios will take a 46 mil opening !!!!! let alone a third or forth week number
@cheetoboy " and actually movie going has increased over this year, seriously from the beginning of the year to now just about almost every weekend has had back to back $20 million or way more grosses." that statement isnt true, Boxofficemojo.com even reported that this time last year saw more sales in tickets and money. it was down 30% from last year and I each week I have read that even with Avengers making bank, ticket sales was still down from last year at this time. @thedude1 and your right tracking has shifted a lot here in the last few weeks. I was going off previous MIB3 tracking which had it at around 80-90 million. I was just saying that seems people are interested in it then it drops off right before it opens and it causes the films to do less than expected orginally. I hope SWATH and Prometheus both have great showings.
@corey Are you serious!? Advertising for Prometheus has been insane! I can't change a channel without seeing a TV spot, viral marketing is insane, theaters are full of cardboard stands... I haven't seen a sci-fi this advertised since Avatar. And I think it's the first sci-fi since Avatar that's gonna be a hit.
@basquat I haven't checked the international release dates, but Prometheus comes out June 8 and Snow White this Friday. Maybe the fact that Ridley Scott is british has something to do?
