@corey Exotic Marigold is "The Expendables of old British character actors" as IGN put it. With a cast including Bill Nighy, Judi Dench, Tom Wilkinson, and Maggie Smith, I don't really need to know what it's about to be interested.

@superman81 Just because it's doing great overseas, doesn't mean it will be a huge hit in America.

@ghostman I think Battleship is going to do better than 20 million. It was tracking around 45 million two weeks ago so I doubt it would slide down to 20 million. I think it will do better than people think. Besides most people have seen Avengers and they will want something more fresh. Guess we will know more this weekend

@superman81 Remember what we said about a 200mil opening weekend for Avengers was a "far reach"? Look what happened, it's the biggest movie of the year (so far) and I see no signs of it lowing down. Battleship on the other hand might earn 20mil next wknd with The Avengers number one for a third week with let's say, 52mil.

@superman81 "I see June as a stacked month and its going to hurt Avengers Box office numbers. with Prometheus, GI Joe, and Promethus all coming out."

You may want to clarify those last few words there, my friend, lol.

@ghostman also i read that Battleship has been tracking pretty well overseas. It was number 1 in Russia again which must mean that they are Avengered out. It has made over 215 million overseas so far. I think this movie might surprise people, even myself, who thought this movie wouldnt make more than 45 million opening weekend.

@ghostman 80 million is a reach since its dropped more than 50% from last week. not that its not possible. I just think most fans have seen it several times and most people who were going to see it have seen it. I think Battleship might and I say might loosely, but it might beat it this weekend. MIB3 for sure will knock Avengers off. I see June as a stacked month and its going to hurt Avengers Box office numbers. with Prometheus, GI Joe, and Promethus all coming out.

Various sites(including Boxoffice mojo) predicted that this movie would suck and collect around maximum 800million. Where are they now?

@zender I had no doubt that Joss could do this and he is brilliant at ensemble and dialogue. For the most part everyone i know online and in my personal life were excited that he was doing it. Of course there are always those that dont agree but he really came through and for that i am not surprised.

The numbers are amazing though. For this i am happy that we will probably be seeing a lot more Wheddon movies. Serenity 2 anyone?

I love that Avengers is doing so well and Dark Shadows as well altho i prefer Burton's original work, i never knew much about the tv series so i am ok with this. But those movies like Alice, Apes and Wonka which i grew up on as a child were a l ittle disapointing because they just dont hold up to the nostalgia factor of watching the originals. having said that, at least he took what he loved and attempted to bring them to new audiences and up to date.

Also i love that the Hunger games is holding in there.

I bet Joss is stunned by the numbers, he might not have know that The Avengers was this popular to begin with.
This will mark him on the map for sure

I'm interested to see what the final numbers will be from this weekend. They estimated 29m Friday and then estimated 30m for Sunday. Somehow I just don't see that. It's still going to be up there but we will see Monday afternoon.
