Po the Panda didn't listen to Adam Sandler's advice. He Messed with the Zohan and made off with $60 million dollars at the box office this weekend, which made the DreamWorks animated film Kung Fu Panda the number one gunner on the charts. Kids and parents alike seemed to enjoy this karate-kicking mini-classic, which stared the voices of Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, and Seth Rogen.
Adam Sandler's Mossad agent that fakes his own death to become a hairstylist chugged into second place with a pretty decent $40 million take. Audiences tired of Sandler's shtick actually called You Don't Mess with the Zohan one of his better efforts in the last couple of years. A lot of people are crediting the writing talents of Robert Smigel and Judd Apatow for the reason it didn't suck.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull dropped to number three with $22.8 million, which puts its total grosses at $253 million. The poor girls of Sex and the City: The Movie dropped all the way down to number four with a $21.3 million take. Their cumulative box office earnings currently reside at $99.2 million, so it should clear over $100 million by next weekend, making it a bonafide hit.
On the arthouse scene, Mongol managed to take in $133,000 on five screens. When Did You Last See Your Father? made off with $41,100 on eight screens. The Seann William Scott supermarket comedy The Promotion earned $28,900 on just six screens. And the Heather Graham pregnancy comedy Miss Conception scrapped together about $1,500 on a meager three screens.
Next weekend, Po and friends will be going up against The Incredible Hulk as well as M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening. Things seemed to really be heating up around here.
Kung Fu Panda was released June 6th, 2008 and stars Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Ian McShane, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, David Cross. The film is directed by Mark Osborne, John Stevenson.

I would rather see "Plan 9 from Outer Space" for the 3rd time in life instead of "The Love Guru"....I wouldn't waste 1 movie dollar on this crap

I saw "Kung Fu Panda"...It was good...not great..Just good.... I would give "Kung Fu Panda" a C+....I had no interest in "You Don't Mess with the Zohan"...too many trailers wore me out!
I also saw the the art house film "The Visitor"...that was good, could have been better! That I would also give a C+ to! Bravo to Richard Jenkins's performance!

I'll be seeing The Happening next weekend. Screw The Incredible Hulk. Even though it will be number 1 it looks terrible. And I'll be skipping both Love Guru and Get Smart. Neither look promising. The next week will be Wall-E all the way. Wanted looks so over the top ridiculous that it;s not even entertaining to me.

wow...wasn't expecting panda to make that much. Doesn't matter anyways, cuz next week all the kung-fu in the world won't be able to defeat the combined might of the incredible hulk and happening!!!!
