Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull took in an estimated $126 million over the course of this four day weekend. That makes it the second highest grossing Memorial Day opener of all time, second only to last year's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. That film took in $139.8 million during the same time frame. Worldwide, this new addition to the Indiana Jones series took in an estimated $269 million. While this take didn't break any new records, it is Paramount's largest world opening to date, and will make Kingdom of the Crystal Skull one of the top ten biggest film openings in history.
No other major film was released this weekend, which allowed for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian to stay in the second place position with $28.6 million, which brings its cumulative grosses to $96.6 million. Iron Man continues to hit strong, floating in the third place spot with $25.6 million. Its cumulative grosses after this weekend are at $257 million.
A couple of smaller films opened to modest grosses at the Art House cinema. The Children of Huang Shi earned $47,900 on seven screens, while John Cusack's War, Inc. nabbed $36,500 on just two screens.
Next week, Indy must face off against the estrogen fueled Sex and the City: The Movie and the Liv Tyler thriller The Strangers. Who will come out on top? I'd bet on the sex starved women of New York.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was released May 22nd, 2008 and stars Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett, Karen Allen, Shia LaBeouf, Ray Winstone, John Hurt, Jim Broadbent, Igor Jijikine. The film is directed by Steven Spielberg.

Same type of action. Same type of traps & gags. Same ol' Indy...with more than a few years added on, but still better than some of the other May blockbusters, like "Speed Racer," "Prince Caspian," and most definitely "Sex & The City."

like 5 people asked me to go see this movie, I said no to each. The boycott still thrives in me, and Iron Man is still kicking ass. Now THAT was a good movie.

I've seen Indy 4 twice already, and both times I didn't pay! (once with an old gift card to Regal, and today with my parents). So when my friend returns from Spain on Wednesday I'm sure we'll see it this weekend!!!
And Indy WILL kick ass of "Sex and the City" and send it to the #2 for sure!!! Yes, I know I'm overly hopeful, but Indy rocks!!!!!!!

With the fanbase behind "Sex and the City" it will be at the #2 spot at most!

No way Sex and the City at #1 there's just no way it will beat out Indy! Indy at #1 and dont be surprised if Caspian and Iron Man stay at their same spots. I'd say: The Strangers at #4 with Sex and the City at #5

"The Strangers" looks like a really bad rip-off of "Funny Games", & well "Funy Games" was a sh*t fest ("Worst film of 2008!), I will skip "The Strangers"! I like Liv Tyler, but she can't sell me enough to pay to see this film!
Well the bad press against "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" didn't help any! I saw "Indy 4" 2Xs over the weeknd!!
(at the Opening Night 05/22 04:00pm showing the theater was almost empty, there were only 10 people in all, but at the 11:00am Sunday 05/25 showing the theater was about 90% full!)
Go to any AMC Theater in the Phoenix, area FRI, SAT & SUN & holidays before 12 Noon and all films are only $5.00!!!

Sex and the City probably won't get number one, Indy will stay there. The Strangers looks really good, thats my movie for the weekend.

I really think Indy 4 will remain atop the box office. Sex and the City is rated R, so that really hurts its chances. Doesn't really matter to me though. I'll be seeing The Strangers and I don't think it has much of a chance.

I don't want sex and the city to get #1, and i don't think it will. My prediction is this:
1. Indy 4
2. Sex and the city
3. Prince Caspian
4. The strangers(this looks good and i wanna see it, but doubt it will make huge at the box office)
5. iron-man
