Saw V finally saw its way to the number one spot on the box office charts this past Friday, when the horror sequel topped all others to become the king of Halloween. But it wasn't able to secure that steady footing throughout the rest of the weekend, as Disney's High School Musical 3: Senior Year become the obvious weekend champ with $15 million. Kevin Smith's latest comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno didn't provided enough power to topple the Zac Efron juggernaught still going strong in its second weekend, but he did manage to fight off the notorious Jigsaw killer with $10.6 million in second place. Saw V's brutal antics were close behind though, as this fifth installment of the popular franchise managed to pull in a healthy second weekend take of $10.1 million.

This weekend's only other new major release was the ghost themed The Haunting of Molly Hartley, which took in $6 million for fifth place. It was beat back by Clint Eastwood's Changeling, which earned an estimated $9.4 million in its second week of release. The drama, starring Angelina Jolie, opened wide in 1,850 theaters.

In a surprise twist of Halloween fate, the film with the strongest per screen average was Bruce Campbell's My Name Is Bruce, which stomped the competition with $18,800 playing just three showings in one theater. If given the 3,646 screens that belonged to the number one champ High School Musical 3: Senior Year, the film could have pulled in a potential $68 million to become one of the biggest surprise hits of the fall.

Next weekend is anybody's guess as a whole bunch of films see release. Coming up on November 7th is the animated sequel Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, the David Wain comedy Role Models, Bernie Mac's last film Soul Men, and Darren Lynn Bousman's horror musical {FICSPKCFyrf5GF. Sounds like a little something for everyone.

Agent VIS, if I had to, and I mean forced to, go to a theater this weekend and pick one new film to see, it would have to be Escape 2 Africa. Something about those penguins just does it for me...

...I wonder when "My Name Is Bruce" will actually open to more theaters across the US, & actually open here in Phoenix, Arizona!?? I love Bruce Campbell and I wld love to see this!!

Let's hear it for Bruuuuce! (Not, not Springsteen.) Ladies and gentlemen, the fabulous Bruce Campbell debuted at the top of the heap among limited releases, with a per-screen average of $18,800, according to estimates compiled by Box Office Mojo. Opening at one theater in New York, My Name is Bruce features Campbell as both star and director. Campbell's site lists upcoming screenings and appearances by The Man Himself.

How many more people have to see "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"!???! PLLLLLLLEASE I WLDN'T WASTE MY TIME!

The films I saw this weekend:
"Zack and Miri Make a Porno" - B-
"RocknRolla" (directed by: Guy Ritchie!) - B+

"Zack and Miri Make a Porno" was funny as hell! A very adult comedy that took some unexpected turns..very surprised!

What can I say about "RocknRolla"..?? It kicked ass, as only as Guy knows how to direct! Very slick and cool British Mob film! I loved it!

yea JR, diaigma is right, there is nothing in theaters right now that will have people racing for the theaters, so of course HSM3 will maintain the top spot, it is broadcasting to the largest audience after all. QoS will put up a very sizeable number when it hits.

The answer is simple, Tenacious. There's just nothing good out right now. What I mean by good is something that will be remembered in a year or two and beyond.

My palate, or film viewing standards, are rather high on the table. I don't go to films in the theater unless its worth the 8 bucks from my rear pants pocket. In this case, nothing above strikes me as...oooh, gotta see that one!

    Common Quantum of Solace!

Let the comments begin. #1 for two weeks. I saw Zack and Miri Make a Porno this weekend and LOVED it. But, I also re-contributed to HSM3. Just cannot get enough of the incredible choreography, or Zac Efron for that matter.
