Great news, I guess that the short story that JK Rowlings did will now be considered as a film. It's the story of how Harry's parents met and had their own adventures way before he was born.
This is the final attempt for Harry Potter to make over 1 billion dollar and I think it will do way beyond that. TDKR will need some kind of miracle to top that.
i agree with @account-closed.... the majority of Movieweb news does focus on U.S film news and a tad bit U.K, what about all the other film places,it be a nice touch to merge them.
The only form of news i see for other films are reviews done by us
@dylan-mccann: Box office has nothing to do with how good a film is, and if you read the novel, then you'd know the final 1/3 of it which comprises Part 2 is primarily action with few plot elements. Hence it easily gets old when it drags on for 130 minutes. Not to mention 3D is more expensive by at least $3 and accounted for 2/3 of the gross.
@gnyah123: Really? You do realize that "Part 2" has already grossed $475,000,000. And how can you know what TDKR's box office numbers are? "TDK" only broke a billion cuz WB rereleased it in IMAX after it came to BD/DVD to get past that barrier, not to mention that it was hyped more since Ledger was dead. It's not looking that way for "TDKR." It's the 3rd outing, which are notoriously worse, and it's common sense that excellent films don't get the grosses they deserve. It happens too often unfortunately.
@ghostman: Actually there's a 3rd reason. Joker is the most well known supervillain ever, and Ledger had the best version by far, as he was actually villainous and has been in the public psyche for 68yrs by the time the film was released. Ledger afterall mostly did offbeat films. "Brokeback..." was his most acclaimed cuz of his Oscar nomination, but it still wasn't that great, and many except teens didn't know his name before "Brokeback..." was released. Being a sequel had nothing to do with it. Had "Begins" not been as good as it was, then there wouldn't be as much interest. It only profited $222,000,000 in comparison to $816,000,000.
For anyone who cares to know: "The Dark Knight" actually made $199,655,000 in its opening weekend worldwide. That's in contrast to Part 2's reputed $475,550,000.
Movieweb should start posting the worldwide totals instead of soley domestic as we're an international community.
the dude abides... the general movie going public will not know that TDKR will be Nolan's last batman film or the last batman film in this trilogy. EVERYONE knows this is the final Potter film. I'm just saying the opening numbers for DKR wont break this here. It will probably gross more domestically though when all is said and done.
hasn't anyone else notice that HP came out around the same time-frame as TDK? and the only two reasons TDK was so huge was becuz it was a sequel and it was Ledgers last completed film role. If they build up the anticipation for TDKR, then I'm sure it'll be just as big as HP but it certainly won't break opening weekend records, that's for sure.
why are we talking bout the dark knight?? HP will NOT break the Dark Knight's Record..give it a few weeks maybe a month or 2 to see where it stands but it won't beat TDK just because TDK was a Well MADE PerfeCt Movie along with Heath's Well 100 percent Performance! but if HP does Break the record..which i doubt...TDKR will FOR A FACT beat HP next year..but i dont think HP will break it
Why the hell are you people even comparing HP with TDKR?? how do we know its going to beat it huh? cause they showed us a teaser trailer? now all of a sudden TDKR is EPIC??? You people fail to realize that James Cameron is working on Avatar 2 and 3 and we all know how the first sh*t fest went on to destroy TDK. You dont think the Avatar lovers wont be flocking to see 2 and 3, not to mention the Twilight suckers who cant wait for their part 1 and then their part 2. Let HP have its moment for now, but I can promise you TDKR wont be breaking any records and if it does it will be short lived
@2movieguys tad too long? its the shortest of the series and wasnt long enough to me. it cut several parts from the book actually. dull?? it was action, suspense, and emotion from the opening scene. there were several people in my showing crying so loud, it felt like a funeral. 3D didnt help??? actually it made some of the scenes stand out more and conveyed the emotion better than it would have in 2D. As far as HP breaking TDK record, who cares?!! I sure dont! They were both great movies on many levels. TDK in my opinion broke records cause of Heath Ledger. If he hadnt died, I doubt even his performance being so great would have brought that much money. People saw it over and over again because he was so awesome and it is was his last fully completed movie. People if you wanna hate on HP go ahead but 3 records and the most money making franchise of all time speaks for it self!! EAT $hit haters!!!
@2movieguys Wow, then you have no taste at all dude, it was just pure epic ness and look how much money it banked in like my words for the movie were DAMN!!!!!
Also...... "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," the first film in the series to be released in premium-priced 3-D, sold $168.6 million in tickets in North America alone - the biggest opening weekend in history, not adjusting for inflation. "The Dark Knight" previously held that record with $158.4 million, according to Hollywood.com
...PS: Part 2 grossed a record $475.6 million worldwide on its opening weekend, breaking the previous record set by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in 2009 ($394 million)
I wasn't that impressed with "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2"...a little dull...tad to long, and the 3-D was just a marketing gimmick and didn't help the film at all...
@moviemaniack1993 In my opinion, any media with "Batman" or "Joker" in it for a movie or tv show sells itself. Ledger's death was unfortunate, yes, but the fact that it was a Batman film and had an all time favorite villain, Joker, weighed more than enough to bring in fans, and his performance was a bonus, which made him far more memorable.
farewell Harry Potter and thank you for all your contributions to literacy and us moviegoers we will miss you at the movies ;) glad Dark of the Moon is still doing very well too
@ghostman I can also admit that the movie received more profit with a 3D boost and we all know it wasn't necessary. Still, the hype alone gave ti a worldwide boost, making it reach nearly 500 million so what's done is done. WB doesn't have to worry anymore and they can make bank and everyone is happy. IMO of course
