Box Office Beat Down: Forbidden Kingdom Kicks Up a Healthy $20 Million

Weekend Box Office:

1)Forbidden Kingdom $20.8 million

2)Forgetting Sarah Marshall $17.3 million

3)Prom Night $9.1 million

4)88 Minutes $6.8 million

5)Nim's Island $5.6 million

6)21 $5.5 million

7) Street Kings $4 million

8)Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who $3.5 million

9)EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed $3.1 million

10)Leatherheads $3 million

This weekend saw the first ever pairing of martial arts legends Jackie Chan and Jet Li going straight to number one. Forbidden Kingdom clean up with a more than expected $20.8 million. This Kung Fu theater version of The Wizard of Oz appealed to both old and young alike. Hopefully, this means we'll get more Chan/Li parings in the near future.

Judd Apatow has a lot of things in common with Steven Spielberg. One of which is the fact that the films he produces never seem to do as well as the films he directs himself. This weekend saw his name on yet another comedy, this one written and starring his old Freaks and Geeks alumni Jason Segel. Forgetting Sarah Marshall came in second place with $17.3 million, which was better than the opening takes of Apatow's last two films Drillbit Taylor and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story combined.

Even though it has been available as a downloadable bootleg since late last year, the Al Pacino thriller 88 Minutes still managed to grab the number four position with $6.8 million. And the independently produced documentary EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed slipped in at number ten with $3.1 million. Not too bad for a doc.

Failing to appear on the charts at all was Jenna Jamison's horror comedy Zombie Strippers. Morgan Spurlock's documentary Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? nabbed $143,000 on 102 screens, while the indie thriller Pathology picked up a cool $50,000 playing on just 46 screens.

Will Jackie Chan and Jet Li be able to hold onto their top spot for a second week in a row? Possibly. Their competition includes the comedies Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo and Baby Mama, as well as the Hugh Jackman sex thriller Deception.

Forbidden Kingdom was released April 18th, 2008 and stars Jet Li, Michael Angarano, Jackie Chan, Yifei Liu, Collin Chou, Juana Collignon, Morgan Benoit, Bingbing Li. The film is directed by Rob Minkoff.

Apatow's Drillbit Taylor and Walk Hard...these are his films, not 40 Year old virgin and Knocked Up. These f*cking people just love to promote by selling lies to the audience. They didnt mention Drillbit and Walk Hard cuz they sucked!!! Grow some balls and tell the truth people!!!
