Box Office Beat Down: Baby Mama Puts $18 Million in Its Basket

Weekend Box Office

1)Baby Mama $18.2 million

2)Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay $14.5 million

3)Forbidden Kingdom $11.2 million

4)Forgetting Sarah Marshall $11 million

5)Nim's Island $4.5 million

6)Prom Night $4.4 million

7)21 $4 million

8)88 Minutes $3.6 million

9)Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who $2.4 million

10) Deception $2.2 million

The on-screen pairing of Tina Fey and her former longtime SNL Weekend Update anchor mate Amy Poehler dived into the top spot this weekend. That's right, the fertile comedy Baby Mama earned an estimated $18.2 million in its first week of release, making it the best seller of the week.

That didn't bode well for Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay, which snuck into second place with a cool $14.5 million worth of ticket sales. Its failure to hit the top spot only goes to prove that potheads hate getting off the couch for just about anything. Look for this sequel to make massive bank when it hits the home video market later in the year.

Failing to make much noise at all was the Hugh Jackman/Ewan McGregor sex thriller Deception. The only other major new release this weekend, their throw back to the Michael Douglas films of the 90s proved that audiences weren't ready to return to that era. The film made a measly $2.2 million, tossing it into tenth place. Just barely.

A few films managed to earn some much needed cash on the Art House circuit. Helen Hunt's Then She Found Me took in $74,400 on nine screens. The Burt Reynolds poker drama Deal won a $31,000 pot playing on a massive fifty screens. And the Errol Morris documentary Standard Operating Procedure earned $14,900 playing on just two screens.

Tina Fey and Company have their work set out for them next week. There's no way they can hold onto the top spot with Iron Man finally making his much-awaited debut at the box office. Also opening are Harmony Korine's Mister Lonely and the Patrick Dempsey romantic comedy Made of Honor. We'll see you then.

Baby Mama was released April 25th, 2008 and stars Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Greg Kinnear, Dax Shepard, Romany Malco, Sigourney Weaver, Steve Martin, Maura Tierney. The film is directed by Michael McCullers.

ok it seems to me that no one is going to see movies anymore(besides us). all these sequels are killing the originals and arent even being recognized. no one gives a sh*t. crap movies like PROM NIGHT(sorry i contributed) and BABY MAMA are coming into 1st because nothing good comes out. maybe the new superhero movies can change that, but then once those have come and gone, we will all continually be f*cked by sh*t movies such as these

I went to see "Flawless" W./Demi Moore & Michael Caine this weekend! Alot better than I expected..well worth the money!!

I also did the UNITED ARTISTS 90th Anniversary film festival & saw "Some Like it Hot" & "In the Heat of the Night" on the big screen!! Alot better films to see! so I didn't catch any of the "New" films that opened this weekend! Nothing looked interesting!

Like I stated..I wanted to see "Deception" but I couldn't stomach Hugh Jackman! Hugh Jackman is a no talent ass clown! Even with my fav actor Ewan McGregor in the film, this couldn't sell me "Enough" to spend the money or the time with the film!

Yeah this movie was terrible, it had a few and I do mean a few funny one liners, also would like to mention I did not see this movie by choice was the wife's turn to pick a movie so yeah I sat through this trying to figure out how to slit my wirst with a plastic knife......it sucked bad and I missed the opening of Harold and Kumar not happy!

Well At least Harold and Kumars budget was only 6 million so they already made some profit, or at least are going to.

I got wore out seeing all the trailers for "Baby Mama" that I skipped it! "Harold and Kumar" I will wait for DVD rental like I did the 1st film. I wanted to see "Deception" but I couldn't stomach Hugh Jackman!

I went to see "Flawless" W./Demi Moore & Michael Caine this weekend! Thank God it finally opened in Phoenix, Arizona! A really good heist flix! I would give it a B+! Worth my movie dollar!

I also did the UNITED ARTISTS 90th Anniversary film festival & saw "Some Like it Hot" & "In the Heat of the Night" on the big screen, so I didn't catch any of the "New" films that opened this weekend!

YES!!!!!!! Next Weekend is "Iron Man"!!! This will be the film to see!!! Great way to kick off the Summer films!

I have absolutely no interest in "Made of Honor"! Looks like a poor man's version of "My Best Friend's Wedding"!
