It was another successful tea party at the box office for Tim Burton's latest film. Alice in Wonderland took the box office crown for the second weekend in a row, taking in an estimated $62 million in its second weekend in theaters. The film, which stars Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Michael Sheen, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Alan Rickman, Christopher Lee, Stephen Fry, Timothy Sprall and Crispin Glover, only dropped an impressive 46.6% in its second weekend, and has a cumulative domestic total of $208 million, already profiting from its massive $200 million production budget after just 10 days. The film also took in a monstrous $16,631 per-screen average, playing in 3,728 theaters.

The weekend brought four new films to theaters, and although none of them really came close to Tim Burton's new film, Paul Greengrass' new film Green Zone came the closest, taking second place with an estimated $14.5 million. The Matt Damon film took in a solid $4,820 per-screen average from 3,003 theaters, but it seems this film will have a hard time earning back its $100 million budget. The new Jay Baruchel comedy She's Out of My League came in third place with an estimated $9.6 million, with just a $3,248 per-screen average from 2,956 theaters and Robert Pattinson's new film Remember Me came in fourth place with $8.3 million. The last new release, Our Family Wedding, came in fifth place with an estimated $7.6 million, right behind holdover Shutter Island, which took fourth place with $8.1 million. The Martin Scorsese film now stands at $108 million after four weeks in release.

Last week's Oscar awards gave a box office boost to a few of the award-winning films. Best Picture winner The Hurt Locker took in $828,000 this weekend, an 88.6% jump from the previous weekend, and the film was shown in 75 more theaters than the previous weekend. The Blind Side, which stars Best Actress winner Sandra Bullock, came in 13th place with $1.5 million, a 24% jump from last weekend.

Next weekend brings three new films to theaters in wide release and three more in limited release. Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which stars Chloe Moretz, Steve Zahn and Racheal Harris, will debut in approximately 3,100 theaters while the Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler comedy The Bounty Hunter will open in 3,000 theaters and the sci-fi thriller Repo Men, which stars Jude Law, Forest Whitaker and Liev Schreiber, will open in 2,450 theaters. Opening in limited release is the band biopic The Runaways in 225 theaters, the new IMAX adventure Hubble 3D will debut in over 40 theaters and the new Ben Stiller comedy Greenberg will open in three theaters.

Be sure to check back here next Sunday to see which of these films will be atop the Box Office Beat Down.

So far the 3 most disappointing films of 2010:

    Legion (2010)
    "Alice in Wonderland"
    "Shutter Island"

& now W./"Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" the release dates of February 2010, April 21, 2010, and April 23, 2010, had been earlier reported. but the release date has since been changed to September 24, 2010.

So far what a crappy year for films!!!

"Alice in Wonderland" sucked ... I felt it was a waste of money!!! "Curiouser and curiouser," says Alice in Tim Burton's latest, and for the first time I don't believe her.

I wouldn't call Alice a Remake. Not only was the "Original" animated but this one is a total reimagining/reboot. MAYBE a sequel but with all the negative stigma surrounding remakes I wouldn't attach that word to projects where it's not warranted
