Roland Emmerich's mammoth epic 10,000 B.C. managed to sweep the box office this weekend with an impressive $35.7 million take. The fantasy film wowed unsuspecting audiences that were eager for some good old fashion B movie excitement. While this prehistoric party was the number one film as far as domestic grosses are concerned, it was the small independent film Paranoid Park that had the best per screen average with an amazing $15, 350 for every screen it was shown on. That's compared to 10,000 B.C.'s $10,478. Paranoid Park earned an estimated $30,700 playing on just two screens.

Coming in at number two was the Disney family comedy College Road Trip. This Martin Lawrence-Raven Symone cross-country trek pulled in $14 million. This week's other two new major releases didn't fare as well. The Bank Job landed at number five with $5.7 million, while Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day drew $2.5 million to come in at number 11.

In indie news, Stephen Chow's family friendly fantasy epic CJ7 earned $41,100 playing on 19 screens. Married Life took in $36,400 on just nine screens. And the David Gordon Green drama Snow Angels managed to pick up $14,000 playing on just two screens.

How will 10,000 B.C. fare next weekend? It's anybody's guess as the film goes head to head with Doomsday, Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who, Funny Games, Never Back Down, Sleepwalking, and The Hammer. Good luck, caveman people!

10,000 B.C. was released March 7th, 2008 and stars Steven Strait, Camilla Belle, Cliff Curtis, Joel Virgel, Affif Ben Badra, Mo Zinal, Nathanael Baring, Mona Hammond. The film is directed by Roland Emmerich.
