Bob Hoskins announces his retirement from acting
Actor Bob Hoskins, whose career spans more than 40 years, announced today that he is retiring from acting, after being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Here is part of the statement released by his representatives.

"He wishes to thank all the great and brilliant people he has worked with over the years, and all of his fans who have supported him during a wonderful career. Bob is now looking forward to his retirement with his family, and would greatly appreciate that his privacy be respected at this time."

Bob Hoskins began his career in the 1970s with a string of guest-starring and recurring TV roles, but his breakthrough came with his role as Harold Sand in 1980's The Long Good Friday. He went on to star in Terry Gilliam's Brazil and A Prayer for the Dying before reaching international acclaim by playing Eddie Valliant in 1988's Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination.

Other notable roles include Smee in Hook, Bart in Unleashed, and Eddie Manix in Hollywoodland. He most recently starred in Snow White and the Huntsman as Muir.

@billyboy it's quite all right all of us have an off day.

11 years ago we found out that my dad had cancer for 2 years he suffered. It was painful to see, by the end of the first year he wasn't himself, couldn't walk nor look after himself.
I remember the good stuff and that's what counts.

@zender Did you not read the article mate? He's got Parkinson's disease. Unfortunately he won't be in a fit state to do broadway or anything else. He'll need constant care and will be lucky to remember the names of his friends and family in a couple of years let alone learn lines for a show. Awful awful way to go out.
Good luck with your retirement Bob. Enjoy the time you have left with your family. Mona Lisa and The Long Good Friday are master classes in London gangster movies and if you haven't seen them I highly recommend checking them out.

What a horrible film for this guy's curtain call. He's far too talented to be retiring to young. Good luck to you Mr. Hoskins.

My favorite film of his will always be Roger Rabbit, very cartoony yet had some adult humor. I guess there's even less of a chance for a sequel now.

Lets see, two years retirement, then back in the saddle. sorry it's just that I personally think that Bob might give up retirement once he learns that there's nothing for him to do unless he goes onto Broadway.
