Jean-Claude Van Damme will not star in the Bloodsport remake
"This film resembles the original in title only. It has nothing to do with any Kumite contest. It has nothing to do with Frank Dux. If the title was not the same, you would not associate the two films. To use JCVD would make no sense because the association would be lost as the story has nothing to do with the first one. If anything it would be a distraction."
The writer also revealed that this is a more of a character driven film.
"This is a character driven, politically motivated film. It has nothing to do with splits or muscles or grudge matches and as I said, if the title were not attached to the rights, you would not associate one film with the other."
Edward R. Pressman is producing, although it isn't known when shooting may begin.
Bloodsport is in development . The film is directed by Phillip Noyce.

Why oh why do these people insist on taking such classics and trying to reinvent the same formula. Bloodsport, was a defining film for JCVD and was not only a success because of the production and the cast, but also of the time. I just cant be comfortable in the fact that with a contemporary retake, things would just be a little more false, what with the technology and coreography etc availabnle at half the price than in the 1980's and 1990's, suggesting that a more over the top performance is likely. Of course the biggest test will be who they cast as the lead, I reserve full judgement until the decision is final...

One of my favorite classic movies that I would really love to see remade is Damnation Alley. The movie, not the book. The story in the book had a great plot about a plague, but the movie was better overall. Ad the plague to a movie version remake and I'm good. And rebuild the Landmaster.

Robert Mark Kamen is such a douche! He got his nut on the 'remake' of Karate kid, which had nothing to do with Karate either, and now he wrote a crappy sequel to a pretty awesome movie, Taken,{which by the way if I had been divorced from that pushy b!tch from the first one, I would have let them take her and keep her}, and now whataya know he's selling out again. Blood sport with no kumite?... umm hey dumba$$, ITS NOT BLOOD SPORT. No JCVD?? WTF! a cooler story that would break the 4th wall is how Frank Dux finds out he's not the main character in THIS blood sport, and he sends his entire clan of Dux Ryu samurai to assasinate Robert Mark Kamen. You could even get Donald Gibb to play the comic relief of Ray Jackson again. Academy award win. Check.
