A Bioshock movie is still in the works
"I think we're in the space now of building properties that are appealing to people, and there's a version of Bioshock that makes a great game and there's probably a version of Bioshock that makes a great movie. I think for us as a company, we don't have any need to get a movie made. We'd like to have a movie made, but it would have to be the right one, and we've had the opportunity to get it made and unless all the right pieces are in place - it's hard enough to get a movie made when all the right pieces are in place. If you don't start with the right pieces, you don't have a prayer. We've had a lot of great talks with great people about it. We got close to great people, but you always have to have all of those pieces in place and that's going to be very challenging. It's a moving puzzle, but I'm going to be continually talking to people about it. It's definitely something that's still in the conversation."
Gore Verbinski was long attached to this project before Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) stepped in to direct back in August 2009. Since so much time has passed, it isn't known if Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is still attached to direct. John Logan wrote the screenplay adaptation for Bioshock.
Bioshock is in development and stars Wentworth Miller, Braden Lynch. The film is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

@jimthar And by the poor decisions I mean the horror remakes and Trannies 2 and Pearl Harbor but hey if you say he can make this movie and do it with the upmost respect it deserves then I believe you sir, but don't hate me when I say he is a bad, ( not the worst ) but a bad director when it comes to most blockbuster making directors even though I know almost every one of his movies has made a sh*t tome of cash, or directors in general, like I said that's just me, looking forward to your feedback my friend.

@jimthar Don't get me wrong man I'm not trying to start an argument sir I just know he has made some poor decisions in Hollywood, I personally love the Bad Boys films and Armageddon and of course the first Transformers but I just wish he was more story oriented with Transformers yanno, I feel there's a lot of backstory and original content he didn't cover from the original cartoon and even though I was born in 1990 I still have the upmost respect and know everything about the 80's cartoon, but I know I am rambling on man and I know it's just not all him but the writer's to, I wish he didn't cast people like Meg Fox and this new chick simply by having them was his car, in the case of Megan Fox at least, but you see my point, less explosion ( even though it is a Transformer's film ) and more story is what I want, and I admit that is just my opinion and you have to give me credit for that, but it's the same way with this as it is with X-Men with me, I want and original story just like the comics ( In X-Men case ) just like the show ( In Transformers case ) sorry I knoe I am just a fanboy lmao but I am looking forward to hearing your feedback my friend.

I don't know about this as a movie. It seems like the kind of game that wouldn't translate well into theaters. I feel like it would be too cheesy and inaccessible to most people. Infinite looks cool but seems like a different universe for Bioshock. I know it's a different city but anybody else think it sounds really different in terms of narrative.

@Kon-El i dont remember that particular part of the game but it sounds cool. wouldn't mind seeing that.

@jimthar You make good points. I also want it to give some of the creeps the first game did when the character was in the elevator and that zombie critter came out of nowhere and you couldn't guess what he was going to do.

@thrashnasty190 well i can see your point about bay. though i loved the first transformers, i thought the 2nd one needed some work. but i still like his movies and despite your feelings about TF, you have to admit that the man has a great sci-fi sense and his visual style would be great for this movie. and you gotta remember, he makes the movies they give him. so if you have a problem with TF, you should really blame the screenplay writers, not bay. just saying. i still think he and scott would be the best for this film. i think their individual styles would compliment the material. that is, provided they wrote it right and stuck to the story. i have a great fear that they're just going to turn this into a team based zombie movie thats underwater. like RE under the ocean. and you wont see big daddy until the end of the film. the "boss fight", so to speak, at the end of the movie. i sincerely hope that i am dead wrong in my assumption.

@Kon-el yeah i wouldnt mind if it went full on game adaptation. i think thats whats missing from most video game movies (prince of persia anyone?) i think it'd be great if it started out like the game did, with the plane crash in tha middle of the ocean and then it goes from there. with just the one guy trying to survive rapture and figure out whats going on. but knowing hollywood, they're going to write it as a "team based" script, like they're sending a team of people to rapture to investigate what's happening there and BOOM! they go off story and ruin the film. i think if they stick to the game and make it a stalker/thriller along the lines of ALIEN it'll be a great film. but no on the 'first person' thing. i dont want to see it from that perspective, through the persons eyes (so to speak) they did that crap in parts of DOOM and it was dumb. (as was the whole film)

@justhim-sir Yeah, except most comics based on video games suck. Just like most movies based on video games suck. Which is why I'm glad they're taking extra time with this.

Until the right pieces are in place? Okay, there they are:
1. A respected or up-and-coming director who will stay committed to the project. Nolan or Fincher would be a dream come true for this, but I doubt it'll happen.
2. An ensemble cast made up of both heavy hitters and unknowns with potential. Mark Strong as Andrew Ryan? Diane Krueger as Dr. Tennenbaum? James McAvoy as Frank Fontaine/Atlas? Anyone?
3. A story that centers on the rise and downfall of Rapture, as in a prequel to the game.
4. A hard f*cking R-rating.

Make a comic book first just to see the respond of people, if they like the story that's in the comic book then make movie, because with a game there's not much to them but game play.

i thought someone was making a fan film of Halo. It was mentioned on this site not to long ago. I wouldn't mind seeing it.

This whole thing is just an excuse-fest. Just make the damn movie. Everyone who loved the games have waited enough for a movie. They already have all the "pieces" they just aren't using them. You already have a script, and supposedly a director. Go out and find some sponsors, and a studio to co-produce, and there you go. I'm sure Sony Pictures wont mind doing it.
All in all, I just hope in the end, Wentworth Miller is still the lead role.

@zender Agreed. Quite honestly, the only games worth making movies out of are Halo and Mass Effect. Great games that would be phenomonal as films if done correctly. The visuals in those games are great and if they become films, I definitely wouldn't mind seeing them in 3D.

Please, Mark would be awful in this.
I've played the games but I wasn't thrilled when I was playing them. The only thing I enjoyed was about the underwater scenes which are breath taking.

ridley scott, michael bay, gore verbinski (maybe) or len wiseman are my picks for this film. i think scott and bay have the best chance of making it as great as possible. especially bay and his penchant for sci-fi. but i only want this done if they do it RIGHT. not like resident evil or tomb raider where they just wrote a movie and slapped a title on it. or max payne for that matter. if you get someone like bruckheimer or speilberg to produce this and get one of those directors, i think it'd be a great flick with a potential franchise since there are 3 games already. and if you've played part 2, you know how it jumps back and forth with part one's story so that would be awesome to see in 2 movies. AND PLEASE DONT CAST F*CKING MARK WAHLBERG!!!!
