Bill Murray Talks Ghostbusters 3

While being interviewed in front of a packed house at Fantastic Fest in support of City of Ember, Bill Murray spoke out on the recently announced Ghostbusters 3. When asked how he felt about strapping on another proton pack and kicking in some ghost heads, Bill had this to say:
“Well, I think the wounds from Ghostbusters 2 have healed. Supposedly they have hired two guys from The Office to write a script. So, that could work. I think that is a good idea. Maybe they will give us a fresh look at it. I’ve always liked our characters. Our characters are funny. We had a lot of fun making the movies. The first one was really a lot of fun to make. But I worry. I think the first forty minutes of Ghostbusters is about as funny as a movie gets. It didn’t have a lot of special effects in it. There were just a couple. It was just about those funny characters in that world. And I liked that movie. I think the first one had sixty plate shots, or something like that. The second one had hundreds. The special (effects) guys got their hands on the script early, and it was just gone. It went away. The script just went away. And it was hard to wrangle, because it was tied all around the effects. It wasn’t about the story coming first, or the characters moving through it. They are hard movies to write, and Dan really caught it with that first one. He really caught it. The characters were fun to do. I did the video game this summer, and it was fun to do it again. I found myself walking down Fifth Avenue, singing that song. And people were like, ‘God, that guy is really full of himself.’ So, there you go.”

Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg are currently at work on the Ghostbusters 3 screenplay. If everything works out, it looks like all 4 original Ghostbusters will be back in business.

Ghostbusters 3 comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Sigourney Weaver, Anna Faris, Bill Murray, Eliza Dushku, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson. The film is directed by Ivan Reitman.

Agreed Mieko. Indy 4 had the formula like the others (minus Temple of Doom. I hated that one). my only complaints to Indy 4 were, it should have been done 10 years ago, and the "ant fight" and the waterfall drops were the hardest for me to swallow. The alien bit was more believable than the ants!

It's a heck of a lot better than someone carving a stupid logo over the face of the moon. That's insult to injury.

Again, good news Murray. I'm taking my kid to it...gonna raise me another Ghostbuster fanatic!

The thing about Indy chad was more of an example than anything else. They didn't lose track or focus of the scope that made the original Indy films what they were. Not that it was such an incredible movie, but it never lost its vision to a point where it couldn't fit into the franchise.

I liked Hanc*ck. It was different. It made me laugh. I was falling asleep watching Indy. I don't know who wrote the dialogue for Indy but they should have been fired lol.

I love all the old Indy movies, but the new one just dragged on and on and had no point. I expect more out of Harrison Ford, he wasn't even funny in the movie like the old ones. Shia sadly enough, was the only comic relief of the film. I will say though, that the ant fight scene was cool.

moviebuff, you're kinda behind on the news haha. They talked about that stuff already when they talked to Akryod and Ramis. The only one of them that looks good for his age is Akryod. He looks the same. Ramis is huge, Bill is all white bearded lol and so is Ernie. Rick Moranis and Weaver are not going to be in the movie, at least, that's what they are saying at this time.

I for one am thrilled that there will be a third added to the classic pieces. As long as they do it where it actually fits in. The aging scientists passing the torch to the up and coming proton pack wielding ghost hunters should be interesting. If they age the footage a bit and emulate the look of the ghosts of the past to make it blend into the originals it should be an instant classic i.e. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. And with the original four in the cast, it can't go wrong. To see them back at it again is comedy in itself. I have high hopes for this film and definitely feel the nostalgia coming.

Every original actor is necessary, including Murray. I agree with what he says, it's not about being a huge special effects bonanza, it's about the characters and their chemistry. The writers from The Office might be able to come up with something great, but I say keep trying different writers until it perfectly embodies every quality the original movies had.

GB2 sucked. When i saw the baby crawling outside the ledge of a building, I rolled my eyes and contemplated walking out. I agree with Murray... it was all about special effects and not the story or the characters. The first one was awesome.

GB3, however, may or may not be. I'd love to see the gang back together... but the script and story is gonna have to be something about the thinking of retirement.. cause the boys are all OOOOLD. Rick Moranis is 55, Dan Aykroyd is 56, Bill Murray is 58, Ernie Hudson is 62, and Harold Ramis is 64. Sigourney Weaver is 59 so she can play a grandma or something haha

Maybe they can train a new set of ghostbusters to take over and make it funny as sh*t. IDK... i DO wanna see the gang back together... but I just don't know.

Awesome Bill. This is great news.

I am sorry to burst your bubble...I thought 2 was just as good as the first...of course, I was 7 when I saw 2, and 2 is considered to be more kid friendly, but I still loved it. Heck, I even have The Complete Real Ghostbusters on preorder now!

In short, I can't wait to see the gang together again.

Writers from The Office! Their humor would fit in perfectly!
