Mail On Sunday is reporting that Bill Murrary discussed his role as the iconic Dr. Peter Venkman in the much talked about Ghostbusters 3. What he said is nothing short of interesting:

Spoiler Alert!

"I said to them, 'I'll do it if you kill me off in the first reel.' So now they are going to have me as a ghost in the film.

Sony has recruited Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (The Office writer-producers) to work on a new installment of the 1980s franchise that starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Harold Ramis as bumbling ghost-hunting scientists.

The original filmmakers, including director Ivan Reitman, and cast are aware of the project and involved in its development. Some original cast members might be involved, but the focus will be on a new cast of Ghostbusters.

Ghostbusters 3 comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Sigourney Weaver, Anna Faris, Bill Murray, Eliza Dushku, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson. The film is directed by Ivan Reitman.

I hope it's a 110% not true that Dr. Peter Venkman will be kill. What they can do is like that espoide of Ghostbuster exteme, where they all work together and Venkman talks about selling the story to Hollywood. But just don't kill him off that is just not the best idea and sound kind of dumd too.

Lol, this reminds me of Beneath the Planet of the Apes where Charlton Heston requested to be killed off in the sequel so that he didn't have to do any more.

Bill Murray is just being a lazy-pile-o'-sh*t. He didn't want involvement, asked to be killed off, and the writers shot back with a "ha! ha! F*ck you! You're wearing a sheet the rest of the film." ;P

We'll see what happens. Could be good; could be bad; no personal preference.

darkdream,, you must have missed Strips, and his beginings on SNL, among other shows. Ghostbusters was his biggest thing by far, but it was all done in his highest of fame anyway.

Dumbest idea I've heard. These films are adult based, but kids can still watch them. Having him as a ghost is just stupid and makes no sense. My main concern is how will he be protrayed in the film. If he's annoying and not funny like he was in the Ghostbusters game, then I will f*cking flip major sh*t. Ghostbusters is my favorite franchise to date, so I'm really picky. This idea is silly and corny. Why didn't they just not have him in it? They don't need to kill him off at the beginning, it seems pointless. Is he gonna hang around the headquarters like Slimer? I don't get why he or they would allow any of this to happen, it's just dumb. Like there is awesome ideas, good ideas, sh*tty ideas, bad ideas, and dumb ideas. This is a dumb idea. It makes no sense. Maybe it's because there's more to it than what we've heard idk. I just don't like it and won't til I see it. Hopefully I'm wrong, cause I don't really want to be pissed off about that before I goto see it in the theater.

I think this is BS, PR, crap to promote and hype this movie in an ironic way for a 21st Century Audience.

This direction could be extremly funny. With Peter and Slimer doing slap stick stuff. But as a fan of the origianl 2, and the cartoon, I am not realing like this. I understand the addition of new people, but why kill off Peter? He could have small roles in the others if they are others, if he dosnt want to do alot of physical stuff. But this all might be a work. So... Time will only tell.

    "new cast of Ghostbusters. "

I don't mind but that means they will make sequels on those young and new ghostbusters and we will never get the same good old feeling again... :(

    Oh well...

this isn't the first time this has been said. Sigourney Weaver also leaked the same rumor/spoiler as did someone else. either there is more more truth to this rumor than we want to admit, or they want to give us that idea to lead us astray. either way, i have EVERY intention of seeing this movie and can't wait for it to be made!

He's just goofing around cause he has no comment. I like his enthusiasm.

I'm sure they have a good story lined up. As long as they are passing the torch to the next generation...setting up for a few more sequels.

I'm still not buying this ghost angle that keeps getting brought up. Akroyd's been trying to make this happen for years and this idea seems like a real good way to ruin the film.
