Last week, we reported that Paramount Pictures is developing a Beverly Hills Cop sequel, after CBS passed on their TV pilot in May. Today, that news has been confirmed, with screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec (Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol) writing the script and Eddie Murphy reprising his role as Axel Foley.

Although the pilot ultimately didn't go to series, Paramount was reportedly intrigued by the interest garnered by the TV show, which tested very well and featured Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley and Brandon T. Jackson as his son, Aaron Foley, a rookie cop at the Beverly Hills Police Department. No story details were given for the sequel.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 had been in development for several years, with Brett Ratner attached to direct from a script by Derek Haas and Michael Brandt (Wanted). It isn't known if Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec are rewriting that script, or starting from scratch. The writers also penned the screenplay for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which is currently shooting in New York.

Beverly Hills Cop was released December 5th, 1984 and stars Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Lisa Eilbacher, Ronny Cox, Steven Berkoff, James Russo, Jonathan Banks. The film is directed by Martin Brest.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 comes to theaters March 25th, 2016 and stars Eddie Murphy. The film is directed by Brett Ratner.

    @vanboy I agree with that as well & @writer220 ... ill reserve judgement on his acting ability tho until I see his next solo film

    @vanboy who here enjoyed MIB 3? Because I didn't.

    As for Will's son Jaden, he's okay but it's Will that's totally lost it. First he said no to Tarantino and he demanded 50 mill for two films plus he personally thinks that he's better than everyone else. Just stop watching the guy, he's now a terrible actor.

    @MovieTwin Smith needs to make a movie without his son in it. Personally, I don't really care for him pushing his son on us so much. I mean, when I see him in a movie with his son, all I can think of is, "ok, that's will Smith and his son", so the movie and storyline takes a back seat. Smith has reached a fork in the road in his career.

    @vanboy I couldn't agree with you more, this needs to star the original cast and not BTJ .. as for the buddy cop concept I would love to see it and after 'After Earth' Will Smith needs and good comedy movie (long overdue)

    It's gonna be a movie...it's gonna be a TV series....now it's gonna be a movie again. Sounds like trouble already. Murphy needs this to be a hit, seriously. He needs to plop down in front of the couch and watch himself in his older movies, so he can tap into what made him so good before. He is a good actor. Anybody who saw him in Dream Girls will agree, but he needs to stop making those stupid Dr. Doolittle and Nutty professor type of movies. And I'll ask it again, why hasn't Will Smith and Eddie Murphy made a buddy cop movie together yet? I mean, Duh!
