Ben Kingsley has joined Martin Scorsese's upcoming period drama Shutter Island. According to Variety, Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo will headline the project.

DiCaprio and Ruffalo will play a pair of U.S. marshals sent to an island for the criminally insane in 1954. There, they investigate the mysterious disappearance of one of the inmates. Kingsley is set to play the mental hospital's chief physician.

This will be Kingsley's first time working with Scorsese. The film is set to go into production early next year.

Shutter Island was released February 19th, 2010 and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Max von Sydow, Michelle Williams, Emily Mortimer, Patricia Clarkson, Jackie Earle Haley. The film is directed by Martin Scorsese.
