Beautiful Boy Trailer
Bill and Kate hopelessly try to find some hint of an explanation after finding out that their only son committed a mass shooting at his university before taking his own life. They struggle numbly through the funeral, the media onslaught, and the awkward pity from relatives and friends. Their already strained marriage is tested as they realize all they have left with each other is their shared grief and confusion -- and the unfortunate legacy of their son. This life-altering event forces Bill and Kate to face their feelings of guilt, rage, blame, self-discovery -- and ultimately hope -- so that they can finally see each other and their chance for happiness again with clear eyes.
Beautiful Boy was released June 3rd, 2011 and stars Logan South, Maria Bello, Michael Sheen, Kyle Gallner, Bruce French, Austin Nichols, Gregory Alpert, Deidrie Henry. The film is directed by Shawn Ku.

@thedude-abides ya know your comment reminds me of Soderbergh's The Informant which was marketed as a zany comedy about a bumbling idiot but when i saw the film not only was he not bumbling (he was quite sinister) but it was very depressing. You make a good point.

That's a fair point, @bawnian-dexeus. But it's set up to look as though they're child was killed in an on-campus shooting. It only later reveals, however suggestively, that their son was indeed the shooter.
My feeling is exactly what you just said. It's not a give away because they gave it away. If the movie is going to be about how the parents cope with their son's actions, then that's cool. But don't sell the trailer as something else and then give away the big reveal all at once is what I'm saying. Either come all out with it, or don't come out with it at all. This looked as if it would've liked to have had it both ways.

@thedude-abides Well the movie looks like its going to be more of how the parent's will have to deal with that heavy burden of their son's actions. So revealing what the kid did wasn't really a give away. But that's just me

They gave away the surprise twist in the trailer. Their son wasn't just killed, he was the killer. Terrible marketing strategy to reveal that in the trailer.
