Rescue Me co-creator Peter Tolan is the latest writer to tackle the screenplay for Paramount Pictures' Baywatch remake. Here's what he had to say about his version of the story, which has little to do with the original Baywatch TV series.

"It's not based on the show in any way, though there are a couple of winks at the show. I don't know anything about the show. I didn't watch it in preparation for writing this."

Apparently, Peter Tolan has also written roles for both David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, although they won't portray the same characters from the show.

Baywatch has been in development at Paramount for quite some time, dating back to July 2009 when Jeremy Garelick was set to write and direct. Last March, we reported that Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka were brought on to rework the script. Now it seems Peter Tolan is the latest writer attached to Baywatch.

Baywatch is in development and stars Bill Hader. The film is directed by Robert Ben Garant.

So it's Baywatch, but it's not Baywatch. And why is this getting a remake, anyways?
