Battleship moves to Memorial Day Weekend 2012
"Universal has put all the elements in place to successfully launch two of our classic Hasbro brands on the big screen," said Brian Goldner, President and CEO of Hasbro, Inc. "Giving Pete Berg and the filmmakers the extra time and resources to make Battleship an even bigger summer blockbuster, is sure to pay dividends when the film is released in 2012."
Peter Berg (Hancock, The Kingdom) came aboard in Fall 2009 to produce and direct Battleship, which will unfold as a massive Naval adventure across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Originally slated for release in July 2011, the film was moved to give it the time and resources to thoroughly realize its huge-scale ambitions and position it for Memorial Day weekend in 2012. Scott Stuber (The Wolfman, Couples Retreat) is producing Battleship through his Universal-based Stuber Pictures, and Sarah Aubrey (The Kingdom, upcoming Dune) is producing with Berg for Film 44. Brian Goldner and Bennet Schneir are producing for Hasbro.
"We believe in Pete Berg and the incredible vision that he and the Battleship team have for this film," said Fogelson. "We're honored that Hasbro is partnering with us to turn one of its landmark properties into a huge summer box-office hit."
Battleship comes to theaters May 18th, 2012 and stars Liam Neeson, Taylor Kitsch, Alexander SkarsgÄrd, Brooklyn Decker, Reila Aphrodite, Rihanna, Josh Pence, Peter MacNicol. The film is directed by Peter Berg.

fallen you are right about Fincher& Facebook, technically we don't know what this will be like.
But that's David "SEVEN/GAME/FIGHTCLUB/ALIENS3 Fincher,...as opposed to Peter "HANC*CK/KINGDOM/FRIDAYNIGHTLIGHTS Berg.
not in the same league, wouldn't you agree

Well it is funny that no real idea are concidered to make into movies. So many books, and short stories, and yet few are done. I blame Clue..lol.. But the movie was alsome.lol. How about Kerplunk? lol. Some games can be made into a movie. Some can't. This is using the name, but no more. This will be a war movie with naval ships and thats all. Why not make a movie out of a game that has a real ability to have a story? Risk, Battle of the Sexies, or a old school one not made anymore, "Heros Quest".

The Narrator: The Better Man
Some people are really close minded. I mean it may sound weird, but look at the Facebook movie., That thing is gonna f*cking rock with Fincher directing.
This seems to be a blockbuster popcorn flick. I ma sure it will be lacking on story but will be loads of fun: no doubt. By far a better idea than any of the other f*cking board games coming to life.

i must be in the minority, but this sounds HUGE!!!! i cannot wait for this! it is all the best parts of Pearl Harbor, plus even more! this movie is gonna be huge and all the naysayers are gonna be lining up in droves to see this AWESOME Naval story.
trust me, this is less about a board game and far more about making an epic film based off the naval battle idea of the game.
