Battle Royale May Be Adapted for a CW Network TV Series

The CW Network may turn Battle Royale into a TV series
Back in November, producer Roy Lee told us that a theatrical remake of the 2000 cult classic Battle Royale is not happening, due to the similarities between that project and The Hunger Games. Today, we have word that the CW Network is interested in bringing this dystopian story to the small screen with a new TV series.

The network has been involved in early discussions with Hollywood representatives about adapting Koushun Takami's novel, which director Kinji Fukasaku's Battle Royale is based on, into an English-language series. Nothing is solidified yet, although the network would expand the novel into an hour-long series, if a deal is finalized.

There is one major roadblock that must be cleared if this project moves forward. According to Japanese law, the producers must secure author Koushun Takami's approval for the remake before any serious talks can happen.

Battle Royale centers on a group of 10 junior high students who are forced by the Japanese government to hunt each other for sport. The original spawned the sequel Battle Royale II in 2003.

Battle Royale was released March 23rd, 2001 and stars Tatsuya Fujiwara, Aki Maeda, Tarô Yamamoto, Takeshi Kitano, Chiaki Kuriyama, Sosuke Takaoka, Takashi Tsukamoto, Yukihiro Kotani. The film is directed by Kinji Fukasaku.

Sure lets put it on CW... Hey here is great idea... the next WWII film should feature the soldiers throwing stuffed bunnies filled with chocolates and glitter instead of using guns... GOD YOU GUYS SUCK!!!! Make it epically violent or don't make it at all!!! @Dark-White-Knight@skywise@bawnian-dexeus

BR is an amazing novel and one of my tops of all time and for this reason i refuse to read or watch that ripoff "hunger games" bullsh*t. but THIS is a bad idea. really bad idea. now im all for making this into a movie if it's done right, say being directed by tarantino or something but a TV show? hell no! they're going to dumb it down and edit it to crap. screw this noise.

No no no no. This book was brutal and came out way before Hunger Games. While Hunger Games may be more American friendly, it owes a great deal to this novel.

Putting this on CW is a mistake. Do it right, or dont do it at all.

because of the restrictions of TV I'm betting this would turn out terribly and would lose a lot of the major story and plot because of the amount of violence and controversial subject matter. hbo or another premium channel would be a better place for it.
honestly though they should just leave it alone and not remake it.
