Batman 3 Won't Be Shot in 3D?
"What Chris and I have talked about is doing something cool and something interesting," Pfister said. "[Director] Brad Bird was [saying] 'you've got to shoot the whole thing in IMAX!' I was like, yeah, I've talked to Chris about that."
Ffister also talked about using IMAX for a sequence in The Dark Knight, despite how uncomfortable it was to shoot in the format, but he also acknowledged that the 3D fad might even pass by the time they shoot the film.
"I did it for one shot of The Dark Knight because he said, you have to say you did it, and literally I had this strapped to my shoulder and I was carrying it. But I think Chris is game for doing something interesting like that, Lord knows that the 3-D fad might pass by the time that summer comes around."
Pfister did know, for certain, though that they would shoot Batman 3 on film.
"But I know one thing about the film that Chris is adamant about is that he wants to shoot on film," Pfister said. "He doesn't want to shoot on video, and I'm the same way."
The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Liam Neeson, Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Aidan Gillen, Marion Cotillard. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

i would have hated for it to be in 3d

look at clash of the titans

Well Vanboy i only have a small number to base my theory on off course. I have seen only 6 films in 3d so far all 3 live action films i seen in 3D their was nothing special about them. Clash of the Titans being one of them. The 3 animated films i have seen in 3D were great so its a small bases on that for now.
When it comes to IMAX its simple not only is the sound and picture much crisper. But in my opinion it adds the element like your right their shooting it yourself or seeing the action and film as it develops right in front of you. Giving the illusion if you will that your right their along for the ride.
So far im my opinion i think 3D is only good for animated films or live action films that have animation or good CGI in it such as Transformers.

Thanks for the support Vanboy. I was going to ask the same question about IMAX and how that is not just as "gimmicky" as 3D supposedly is but I honestly didn't feel like calling people out on that. It's a decent point to make though.
The problem is that 3D IS being overused on SOME projects... or at least more accurately 3D conversion which I am not a fan of. There are projects out there (The Green Hornet comes to mind) that really do appear to be jumping on a bandwagon to try and market a potentially bad movie. But that isn't the fault of 3D itself, it's poor business decisions saturating the market. 3D itself is not the enemy. Poor use of it is. At the end of the day, if Batman was shot in 3D with great equipment, great director, great script, and great acting... it would be DOPE. No point in complaining or denying that. It will be great in 2D too.
I found it funny that there was not nearly the outcry when it was announced that Ridley Scott was going to shoot the Alien prequels in 3D.

I don't mind 3D, i just seem to get a big ass headache at the end of watching it. That may not just be due to 3D, it could be the movie itself, or the fact that i lack 20/20 vision and have to wear eye-straining specs, but the point is that 3D sholdn't be for everything, say rom-coms, comedies, dramas and the like. It only suits action and advenure movies, and should be for future releases. i think it won't be a short-lived 'fad', but may continue to bless our eyes with out-of-this-world images (and won't give me intercranial bleeding).

Remy72883, can you tell me WHY IMAX is "cool" and 3D isn't? And does the huge screen add to the story, like all desperate complainers try to prove about 3D for which they attempt to build a platform of bitching on? And does the word "cool" somehow lend merit to ones validation of choice preferences?
Everyone who says 3D sucks, is expressing an opinion, plain and simple. It has no factual merit. Look at 3D film box-office takes. Sorry fellas, it can't be denied and you all know it. "Resistance is futile".
It's really sad to see so many people who can't handle progress, in this area of cinematic entertainment. When you guys watched Star Trek: The Next Generation, and saw the Holodeck, were you all saying, "That's so cool. I wish we had that now" I think that you were. Well, where do you think, that that advancement (albeit a fictional one) originated? Never mind, just go back to watching your VHS.

jonquest, Awsome again! Keep firing those missles buddy!!! Yeah, can you imagine if we actually saw Batman land on top of that van in 3D? It just wouldn't have been dramatic enough. Because with 2D, it's just so much more believable that he could land that way and not break a hip bones or any legs, right? Ha, ha, ha!

#Stiles I think 3D works great for animation "A Christmas Carol" looked superb there is just a time and a place for 3D and #Todd89 you need only look at Nolan back catalogue yo realise He's Intelligent. In my eyes he has still to make a bad film, Bring on "Inception". Hope you guys agree.

I watched How to train your dragon in IMAX the other day and thought that was a good advert for 3D. It seems there is a really bandwagon of hate towards the format, but it can work on the right film.
I don't think it would work with Batman in this case though, so glad it's going to be left alone.

The fad for 3D will be over by the time they shoot Batman 3, Good. I'd bet it will be a better film for it not been shoot in 3D and the depth and resulution should be there if it is shoot with a good cinematographaer has Pfistere is.

Yes, Nolan is smart after all. It takes someone with intelligence to stand up against 3D, some films need it some don't and this is one of the them.

I'm glad this isn't gonna be in 3D. As awesome as it would be, it would suck if it was released and no one wanted to see ANY 3D movies anymore.
I'm with "mixlexic": let's just have the next Chris Nolan/Batman movie sharpish.

The Clash of the Titans 3D sucked because it was converted. If this was actually shot in 3D, it probably wouldn't be bad...but that's not the point. The point is that the 3D for this particular movie is pointless.

i say unless the 3D adds to the story and acting then leave it out of the picture, yes certain films can look good with 3D but not all of them are meant for it, i see how from time to time 3D can give you a little rush but i would trade that in a heart beat any day of the week for a strong storyline that is well acted, THANK GOD 3D IS GOING NO WHERE NEAR THIS FILM,
P.S. I WANT IT ALL SHOT IN IMAX, THAT'S COOL

Why is this considered news? Nolan and Pfister are very outspoken against 3D. And I totally agree with them.

Just imagine how bad the storyline, and dialogue, and the acting, would have been if The Dark Knight would have been shot in 3D. Thank goodness 3D wasn't around back then because it would have destroyed the movie. Imagine how bad Heath Ledger's Joker would have been in 3D... just aweful. 3D ruins storylines and acting. We dodged a bullet here folks.

MF3D, they shouldn't even consider it. Avatar was great and all and that's it. Classical franchise film like "BATMAN" will suck in 3D, no offense by the way. For it's kind, the only way to get a lot of money is good story; like the last "The Dark Knight," everything worked perfectly and it left a mark.

f*ck 3-d. i'm glad they are not doing the 3-d gimmick for money. I would be more than glad to pay for the IMAX. It was worth every penny seeing the dark knight in IMAX. I don't understand what fad is going on with 3-d. Avatar is great but all the other films who tried to pull it off failed miserably.
