A few days ago we reported that Warner Brothers and IMAX had signed a whopping 20-picture deal for several future films, one of which being Batman 3. Now Box Office Mojo is reporting that Warner Brothers has set a July 20, 2012 release date for Batman 3.

The release date mirrors the release of the studio's incredibly successful sequel The Dark Knight, which opened on July 18, 2008 and took in a whopping $533.1 million at the domestic box office and more than $1 billion worldwide.

No further information was given, but it's worth noting that the release date comes just a few weeks after Sony's Untitled Spider-Man Reboot, which is set for release on July 3, 2012. As of now, they are the only two films slated for a July 2012 release.

We'll be sure to keep you posted as soon as we have any more information on Batman 3 and the involvement of Christian Bale, Christopher Nolan and the rest of the returning cast.

The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Liam Neeson, Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Aidan Gillen, Marion Cotillard. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

    IamBatman, I hope you're not serious. Everyone is just speculating what the next story will involve. Considering that it is more than two years away, it's quite all right to speak your mind about what you think will happen in the movie. That's what this website is- a place to exchange ideas.

    I think with the absence of Rachel Dawes it makes sense to introduce Selina Kyle as the female protagonist, and then it's only logical to have Hush as the villain. There's so much they could do with that angle, not to mention that they could rip from The Dark Knight Returns and have Batman fake his own death at the end in order to give the series closure. The old concept of the trilogy needs to make a comeback.
