'Batman 3' Plans to Be Finalized in January?

It seems that Christopher Nolan isn't locked in yet as the director.
Even after the uber-successful 2008 blockbuster The Dark Knight, it seems that a sequel is still up in the air. Batman On Film reported last week that Warner Bros. should complete their plans for Batman 3 in January 2010. Here's an excerpt from their article regarding director Christopher Nolan, who might not be signed on for the film as of yet.

Our guy told BOF that in his opinion, the longer we don't hear a Nolan/B3 announcement in 2010, the less likely it is that the director will return. (I don't know if I necessarily agree with that since I'm of the belief that Chris has already signed on.)

It was also said that Batman 3 would be moving forward with or without Nolan, but we'll have to wait and see how this new film develops. We'll be sure to keep you posted whenever we have new information, so stay tuned.

The Dark Knight Rises was released July 20th, 2012 and stars Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

I was watching one of the fan made batman 3 trailers (or whatever you want to call it). One of them had an interesting concept. Edward Nygma is brought on as a detective by the city of Gotham to find out who Batman is and bring him to justice. Nygma gets so obsessed with it, that he sets up puzzles and riddles along the way. I just thought that a cool idea.

Omg batman is the best!!!! For batman 3 tho they're gnna have to set their bar higher bc thee dark knight was so successful andd they're gnna have. To compete with that...and they need to get GREAT actors for the villians bc heath ledger set a VERY high bar for a villianous role!!

Paul Bettany is a great choice to be the riddler but i would take Damain Lewis the red head from the t.v show life he could play a clockwork orange type of riddler

I certainly hope Nolan will be involved, even if only for continuity's sake...
He did an incredible job on the first two.

It's funny cause in The Animated Series, it was more like a man, but he was grey, had long finger nails, and sharp teeth and bump/scales on his back.

    the Lizard? Me confused lol.

I almost wish they would have added Hush as a kid haning out with Bruce in Batman Begins so they wouldn't have to go back and explain him that much if they were to put Hush into the 3rd intallment. But oh well. Yeah Joker was playing games and making Batman make choices EXACTLY like the Riddler, but they weren't as intricate as The Riddler's puzzles/problems always seem to be. But the Joker brought purpose to his madness, so how would they make The Riddler have purpose? I'm talking about a good logical reason for him doing what he is doing here, since he is smart after all, he's not gonna be doing these games for Batman or Bruce for no reason at all. He'd be a guy with a plan, unlike Joker who's plan was to undo everyone else's plans lol.

  14. the Narrator

Illuminati and Chad, great choices. HUSH is literally, my perfect villain for this Bruce, and my favorite comic book villain. Adding in Deadshot would be good.

People say the Riddler and The Joker are two different people and their completely right. But when Ledger did his performance, and Nolan's writing, it was actually a tad bit close to the Riddler. Thinking ahead almost always, toying with people. I mean the Joker does thing like that in comics and such, but in this telling he was just to resembling and if they did Riddler the person portraying him would have to change it up a bit and be a bit of a wuss. No laughs. Strictly business and crooked smile. Maybe someone with polio that isn't physical but is psychological.

Anyways, for me it would be Hush and Catwoman. Keep it deep and simple. Unless they wanted to please me (never gonna happen) and do a No Mans Land story arc which would be perfect for Nolan's vision of the Caped Crusader. Just take away the Lizard and weirdos and make it realistically a desolated city. Like the Joker planted bombs throughout the city and a series of things along with the cities destruction, leaves gotham desolate and the joker goes into hiding (explains why he wouldn't show up) with the Riddler or penguin running things. Like I said if only.

Levitt is almost a spitting image of Ledger. The only reason Nolan doesnt want the Joker know is because Nolan said he felt responsible for Ledgers death. If he wanted to use the Joker again he would use the additional footage he shot of Ledger just in case Heath didnt sign on for a sequel.

  16. Newkill3000

I'd rather see Daniel Day Lewis. I'm not into all this hype about this Levitt guy. Every time i see him i was think of him with a ski blade stuck into his face from H20. James Franco might be good but i kind of worry that he would continue with his evilness from green goblin and joker's a much very different character.

NEWKILL IS TELLING THE TRUTH, IT WAS SAID THAT LEDGER WAS SIGNED FOR TWO MOVIES, SO HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE BACK FOR PART THREE, BUT SINCE WAT HAPPENED HAPPENED, IM SURE NOLAN CAN FIND AWAY AROUND IT AND COME UP WITH A GOOD TRILOGY, AND IF HE GOES ANY FURTHER, I HAVE A FEELING HELL BRING THE JOKER BACK OUT

IVE HEARD RUMORS AND COMPARISONS FROM DANIEL DAY LEWIS, JOSEPH GORDON LEVITT, JAMES FRANCO AND EVEN BEN FOSTER PEOPLE THINK COULD TAKE UP THE ROLE, HOW DO U GUYS FEEL BOUT THESE ACTORS AS THE JOKER?

I have read alot or articles where Nolan did say he wasn't done with the joker but i think with the way things worked out he cant have that character again for a while cause Heath did such a great and amazing job. Id have to say i would like to see the riddler but with the tone the joker had i think it might have to many similarities when it comes to the darker side of things. But never the less whatever Nolan decides to do if he does the next film i have faith in his work.

  20. Newkill3000

Illuminati, if Ledger hadn't died Nolan would have brought him back for Batman 3, so obviously his arc was not over.\
Chad, you've already been owned, so i have nothing else to tell your dumbass. Lol, sorry.

  21. Chad Vital

Yeah but Ledger said he got his Joker from watching Clockwork Orange, hence The Riddler would be too similiar unless they did it on purpose, then it'd might be alright.

Newkill, you have never ever pwned me btw. You rarely make solid good points to back up that thing you call an opinion. Me = intelligently discussing with facts and then I state an opinion based off of them. You = annoying, sh*t talking, unfair, thick headed, immature, and you troll threads to get people mad since you know what you say is so ridiculous that other people call you out on it too. It's not like I'm the only person who has a problem with you on here. YOU WERE BANNED REMEMBER? Yeah. I win this argument, yet again. The negatives are stacked higher on your plate than on mine so you have jack sh*t to say to me.

  22. Illuminati

ALL superhero films should have a nice arc of about 3/4 films THEN allow a NEW envisioning and retelling through another style.

This should & WILL be the last BATMAN film Nolan & Bale will do. They WILL move on to other project and rightfully so.

I LOVE the current tone of BATMAN films, and they haven't had it this accurate since the 90s ANIMATED SERIES. But it's only 1 persepective/style of the character.

I could totally see a batman trilogy with more supernatural/horror tone. I'm sure the studios would go for it too since horror/gore hasn't been this popular since the 70s. KILLER CROC, MAN-BAT, CLAY FACE are psychologically fascinating characters, in the hands of a good producer/director it can be something special.

    5 years agoby @illuminatiFlag

  23. Illuminati

Newkill, the joker had his arc, two face(short as it was sadly) had his arc and they need to be left alone.
Chad, you're right about BANE. As for RIDDLER they should make him different from Joker, i can't help but see nerdier version of CLOCKWORK ORANGE's Alex to do the trick! Nolan mentioned CLOCKWORK ORANGE as well.

  24. Newkill3000

F*ck Ledger. Nolan needs to do Batman 3 with the Joker back in. Daniel Day lewis for the Joker. He's a far superior actor than Ledger ever was and could easily handle that role.

  26. Chad Vital

Newkill's getting lazy lol, finally has nothing else stupid to say back to me. It's cool, I'm tired of fighting too.

And THANK YOU illuminati, that is what I've been saying. Black Mask, Hush, and Deadshot would go well with the next film. The only problem I have with The Riddler, is that he'd be too much like The Joker if they went with him. Unless he was a copy cat who thought he was better than Joker himself.

I like #1 and #2 the best. Penguin isn't that cool. He could make a cameo as a politician only, say, Deadshot assassinates the mayor from TDK, and Cobblepot is elected as mayor but he's corrupt, and connected to the mob (Black Mask). That would be interesting. Most of these characters work, besides Bane, who I like, but he would be kind of out of place in all this realism lol.

    5 years agoby @chad-vitalFlag

  27. Illuminati

    most of these have already been mentioned by others on the boards. Just a few additions. It's important to fit this into the ending/setting of TDK Nolan universe;

    1. Riddler & Blackmask + mob; Riddler is going after BATs, Blackmask would work from the crime mafia angle and take down bruce.

    2. Hush & Deadshot + mob; Hush for Bruce on a personal angle, Deadshot gun for hire to kill Bats.

    3. Bane & Penguin + mob; brains & brawn. Bane for bats, Penguin for Bruce. Not sure it matches the continuity from TDK.

BLACKMASK would be a perfect & easy fit to a world where batman is an outcast and a mob take over is eminent. the personal back story would have him going after Bruce.

PENGUIN needs to be what he was ORIGINALLY, a strange, eccentric, psychotic mastermind. Not a freak of nature! He's a business man in Gotham tolerated by Bruce to use him as an informant when needed. - Phillip Seymore Hoffman is the only choice!

THE RIDDLER the perfect look would be a touch of the "ultra violence" CLOCKWORK ORANGE's Alex. I truly feel this the first choice for the central character! Should be careful not to be anything like Joker. - Paul Bettany fits nicely.

HUSH also has a great back story, a personal grudge to bring down BRUCE.

DEADSHOT is a good 3rd villain used by a mastermind villian or mob. Has enough flair and brawn to keep bats on the run.

CATWOMAN is not a good idea, its a BIG risk as the film might become campy. Can be fit the current tone of TDK aftermath.

BANE is a brilliant story, but provided they DON'T go supernatural with the venom. He's a good secondary brawn villian to match a brains foe(riddler/penguin).

A mix and match of ANY of these guys would work best, but it's gotta be a BRUCE & BATS combo the villains are after.
