Barbarella Finds Anne Hathaway
Barbarella tells the story of a female mercenary who roams across the universe in a distant future, undertaking missions that require her physical fearlessness, ingenuity and sensuality. In travels that span galaxies known and unknown, Barbarella will challenge tradition, startle the senses and take audiences on an epic adventure of discovery and wonder.
Barbarella made her debut in 1962 in a French graphic magazine written and illustrated by Jean-Claude Forest, and her adventures have been published around the world. The first film version, starring Jane Fonda, was released in 1968.
No production date has been set.
Barbarella comes to theaters in 2014.

@Playhouse, she was a part of Get Smart, which made over 230 million in box office. Barbarella has nowhere near the built in audience Maxwell and company had to put that many people in the seats. Don't get me wrong, Hathaway is great, but this role is not suited to her at all.

No, I agree. She doesnt have the sexiness to pull this role off.

Playhouse
Gotta disagree, ejk1. I think she's got the figure, the wits and the humor to pull the role off. As for beneath her, not only did she come up in dorky comedy, she also deigned to do a little film called 'Get Smart'. She has a good head on her shoulders and doesn't fall into pretentiousness like that. Casting Hathaway in this movie not only increases the quality but adds a great counterbalance to play up the farce of it.
If this is real, I think it's a great choice.

Sounds like a live action version of Heavy Metal.

Sorry, but I don't think so. Unless they make a more serious film, Hathaway, while good-looking, is not the bombshell Fonda was, or is needed for a campy flick like Barbarella. Plus, why would a serious actress like Hathaway want this project if it is campy? It just seems beneath her.
