Twentieth Century Fox announced today that the Avatar teaser trailer has become the most-viewed trailer ever on the popular iTunes Movies Trailer section of apple.com, which Thursday hosted the long-awaited public first look at writer-director James Cameron's motion picture epic. The teaser registered over four million streams in its first day on the site, shattering the previous record of 1.7 million.
On Friday, the trailer arrived in theaters around the world, presented in all formats, including IMAX 3D, IMAX 2D, digital 3D, digital 2D, and 35mm 2D.
The record-shattering online trailer debut marked the launch of Avatar DAY, an unprecedented experience that also saw the unveiling of special scenes - in 3-D - prepared especially by Cameron for this event. The extended look at AVATAR unspooled for two showings only Friday evening. The U.S. showings were held in select IMAX 3D theaters, and international unveilings were in select digital 3D and IMAX 3D theaters. Reservations for all showings were completely booked.
In addition, Fox took the wraps off its special "3D"/lenticular one-sheet posters for the film, Ubisoft unveiled the trailer for their videogame James Cameron's Avatar: The Game, and Mattel revealed the action figures for the film's Avatar and alien Na'vi characters.
Avatar takes us to a spectacular new world beyond our imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery, as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. The film was first conceived by Cameron 14 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, Avatar delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film, disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.
Avatar opens in theaters everywhere December 18, 2009.
Avatar was released December 18th, 2009 and stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel Moore, Giovanni Ribisi, Michelle Rodriguez, Laz Alonso. The film is directed by James Cameron.

Did you just say The Dark Knight can't come close to Titantic? I hope you meant money wise cause that's the only thing he had going for it. Yes it was a decent flick but it wasn't a better story than TDK.
Btw to all the retards who are freaking out about TDK "talkers" who aren't really even talking about it until right now lol.
I brought it up merely because of the trailer, The Dark Knight trailer has to have WAY more hits than this film, when there is mediocre praise thus far. EVERYONE AND THEIR F*CKING DOG WATCHED THE DARK KNIGHT TRAILERS OVER AND OVER so that's why I think this information is false. Has nothing to do with how well TDK was or anything about plot comparisons or anything, people need to read before they open their mouths. That is all that was said people, nothing more so stop acting like people are off talking about "the greatness of The Dark Knight" when no one said ANYTHING REMOTELY along those lines. Pay attention you goons.

SAW THE 16 MINUTE SNEAK IN IMAX 3-D LAST FRIDAY NIGHT!!!
First and foremost, this movie was made for and intended to be seen on an Imax 3-D screen...
The visuals were utterly amazing! You really felt as though you were in the scene, right along with these space marines and the Navi.
Rundown of the 16min Sneak (don't get dissappointed by the teaser trailer...it shows you nothing, and you have no clue how cool this movie is until you see it in 3-D)
1. First Scene: The high ranking military (with 3 scars on the side of his head). Walks into a big room filled with soldiers and starts talking about Pandora. He goes on to say that he will not be able to protect all of them, and some of the soldiers will certainly die. The Sam Worthing rolls up in a wheelchair and throws down his duffle bag. End Scene --
2. The next scene is similar to what you saw in the teaser (excep more detail). Sam is looking at the big blue Navi in the holding tank. He then gets loaded into a cat-scan looking machine by Sigourney Weaver and undergoes the process of teleporting himself into the big blue alien. The scene continues with him standing up and learning to walk and use his new legs. Eventually the scientists try and convince him to sit down and relax but he just won't, and finally bursts out of the room and takes off runnning. End Scene --
3. The Next scene is on Sam (in his Avatar body) walking thru the Pandora jungle (along with Sigourney Wearer in her avatar body, as well as others). They happen up a pack of large dinosaur looking things and one of them approaches Sam aggressively. He stands his ground and it backs away only because there is a large viscious looking tiger thing sneaking up from behind Sam (you see this mean ass looking thing in the teaser). A huge chase ensues with Sam running thru the jungle nearly getting eaten by this thing at every turn. The 3-D here was jaw dropping...you really felt like this thing was chasing you...utterly nerve-racking and amazing at the same time. End Scene --
4. The next scene is of Sam (still in his Avatar body) walking thru the jungle with a native Pandora Navi girl...she is scolding him about being there and the animals having to die, and how it was so unnecessary. During this walk you get to realy see the Pandora jungle at daytime and see all the plantlife. We then cut to night time in the jungle, and f*cking hell, was it cool...everything glistened and lit up and f*cking fire flie looking things and all sorts of sh*t. The effects were so f*cking cool in the jungle at night...I could watch this sh*t for hours. End Scene --
5. The next scene is Sam and this Navi girl climbing a cliff...along with what appears to be the rest of her tribe. They get to the top where sh*t loads of the winged dragon-bird looking things are perched (growling and snapping and sh*t). She tells Sam that he will be chosen by one (this is his learning to fly lesson). He asks "How will I know I have been chosen", and she answers "It will try to kill you...". Well...this happens and he rides on of these winged f*ckers off the side of a cliff crashing and bouncing off the mountain as they tumble towards their deaths...but eventually he souts "straighten up and fly right"(or something like that)...and that thing straightens up and flys perfectly with Sam on its back. I gotta tell you that I felt like I was falling and flying with these f*ckers the whole way down. End Scene --
It then cut to a montage of battle scenes between the marines and the Navi...this was very similar to the last part of the teaser (just a lot more of it).
All I can say it that I am SOLD...this is the coolest sh*t I have ever seen in a movie. The 3-D was not 'in your face...poking and bullsh*t like that'...it was immersive...and truely amazing to look at.
SEE IT IN IMAX 3-D OR YOU'RE GONNA BE MISSING THE COOLEST THING TO HAPPEN TO MOVIES EVER!!!

I guess it's so much easier to be a critique. Do you guys simply hate the director or something? As far as I can recall, he is responsible for Titanic, Terminator and the Abyss. He's a ground-breaking director who was able to combine new computer graphics technology with complex and human stories. So besides the fact the trailer came out only 4 month before the release (and you had to wait for it an entire year), and District 9 only cost 30 Million, and Dark Night is such a great film, what else don't you like about this trailer. Please comment with some actual consecutive criticism. So those of us who like the trailer can better understand why we shouldn't see this film in December. Thanks.

Is TDK to be the golden rule from now on? Are you seriously just going to live in 2008 as long as possible until someone tells you to knock it the f*ck off? It was a good and successful movie, now let it go you twats!

You cant compare this to the Dark Knight until December comes around. TDK actually lived up to the hype around it which is more than what I could say for this Battle for Tera looking bullsh*t. Nothing will come close to TDK's numbers for years to come.

I don't understand why some of you are saying these bad things about Cameron. He is a fantastic director who has brought us nothing but classics. And besides, it's just a trailer. So what if it breaks records, the movie has been on hold for over 10 years, so naturally it's going to have hype. And the movie is going to be amazing.

ya like "Chad" and "bhaarath" i don't buy the whole record shattering trailer myth either...the trailer was one of the most ordinary there ever been...some blue thing doesn't and i believe it didn't made any difference...its just all hype now at the moment with this movie...and like "bhaarath" i m also hoping AVATAR not coming close 2 DARK KNIGHT...fingers crossed!...even in trailer department i'd bet DARK KNIGHT was most watched...i mean i m talking about JOKER and BATMAN duking it out...does 20th century fox thinks people give a damn about some blue giants more than two of the most iconic characters ever created...we saw gollum, davey jones & king kong...we don't get excited by no giants no more mr. Cameron!
