Avatar Takes in Another $19 Million on Monday at the Box Office
The site is also reporting that the figure is the second-highest non-holiday Monday gross, behind The Dark Knight's $24.4 million last summer. Avatar was released December 18th, 2009 and stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel Moore, Giovanni Ribisi, Michelle Rodriguez, Laz Alonso. The film is directed by James Cameron.

Like I said the movie was good but it did not impress me like all the critics said(like I said the movie was good not bad). What did he do what Peter Jackson did not do in Lord Of the Rings trilogy. What did he do that Final Fantasy Spirit Within did not do. What did he do that transformers did not do(of coarse it was a better film than tranformers lol). What did he do that robert Zomaskas(sp) and Pixar did not do. The way he was hyping the film I was thinking he was going to have Photo-realistic humans that you could not tell apart from the human characters but he instead had blue people that still looked like cartoon characters. In transformers the robots actually looked as though they were real but hey its easy to make robots seem that way in cgi since they not living breathing organisms. I seen a 9ft tall green dude in the incredible hulk. As I said though I still enjoyed the movie I just did not see what the big fuss was all about how people were talking it was sounding revolutionary like the movie from prognostics to cgi lol

bro if AVATAR is not the best movie out there then name one??
trust me if even some other director had directed this movie, it'd still do wonders at the box office and the reason is word of mouth. And y shouldnt JC's movies have that hype?? the guy has made great movies and deserves limelight and hype every time he comes up wif something.
AVATAR is the best movie experience out there. it separates past from present and future. it ushers new era, its the new kid on the block. its the new generation, my generation. And I am proud that I witnessed the hype the curiosity and the results when this era began. And trust me coming from CG background I can assure you this movie is a very foundation of future cinema. if you still cant get it then bro, you misunderstood the whole story, no offense. :).
i must leave now gotta catch cruise later 2nyt to c fireworks n party all night. HAPPY NEW YEAR MY FELLOW BRO'S n SISTA's ....
peace!!

This movie is about any great movie around. Like titanic, this movie sets what it is to become the future of movies since back in 1997 Titanic set a new way to see movies or create. Avatar is doing well becase of word of mouth going around. This movie has the best 3D vissuals ever and it passes what wee percieve of movies. Now we are going to see probably the next generation of movie industry, 3D. Look for the transformer,spider-man ect to be in 3D in the future.OH, and LOOK at the movies that James Cameron has done just in case!!

don't get me wrong i love Dark Knight but the only thing about that movie that lived up to the hype was Ledger. The story was really good but not as great as some make it out to be. however, Avatar lived up to the hype as far as i'm concerned. The story was not as weak as some say. Sure, it's not great but it kept me more than interested. and the visuals were groundbreaking. there is no denying that.

Yes Im a Batman fan and yes I liked the Dark Knight(I liked Batman Begins better). I'm also a movie fan as well so I can care less if another movie comes out and breaks Dark Knights record, Im just glad I was able to watch a good Batman flick that made enough to warrant another movie(I want the next one to be the last one in the Nolan trilogy unless he still has it in him to make another one without studio pressure.) If you read my comment I said I liked the movie it just did not live up to all its hype. You say that Dark Knight fans will weep if Dark Knight gets out grossed I did not weep. You know why because I dont care about how much a movie grosses as long as it is a good movie Im happy. The movies that come out later anyways gross alot of money because of inflation thats why they are so quick to break records every year. I pretty sure Iron Man will break this record next year, then the next bat film will break its record its a never ending cycle.
@ Jadegonemad
You cannot use that demographic argument about James Cameron. It all depends on the subject matter. I saw alot of men, women, and kids at transformers as well. Like next year you will see the same thing for Iron man so thats a silly argument. Did Cameron get that same demographic with Aliens, are True Lies no because of the subject matter lol

I think people should give James Cameron a little more credit in that he has a finger on the pulse that he gets all kinds to go to the movies. When I saw it the theatre was filled with kids, teens, adults, and senior citizens. M Bay gets teen boys with Transformers, Twilight movies get teen girls. Cameron's movies get all demographics. Titanic biggest weekend was 25 mil but that movie kept people coming back and ended up being the top grosser of all time. McG and Bay are pure adrenaline junkies and comparing Cameron to them is an insult. Avatar has the same mix for everyone and will make a ton of money.

these people moaning about the box office reports every day probably didn't care when it was Dark Knight they were talking about. i'm thinking the only people saying Avatar sucked are the Dark Knight diehards that would weep in their mom's bosom if something made more money. you can not honestly tell me that Avatar is not a great flick.

I agree with ddarkknight...the success of Avatar lies with the Cameron brand name & great visuals. It's alot like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in that the story & character development are on the back burner, cold, while the CGI spectacle is boiling over on the front burners.

Dont get me wrong I know the movie is good an all, but its not the greatest thing out. This is what I want to know if this movie was not made by James Cameron would people really go crazy over it. I mean its as though the movie critics were paid off in order to not give this movie a fair review(like I said the movie is good but not as good as the hypes it is getting). Since hollywood had so much riding on it not to do bad. If you read alot of the critic reviews the stuff they say for instance, like the story is nothing special (or dances with wolves copy-cat) but hey the visuals are spectacular and that all that really matters type deal and the movies still gets praised lol but oh when it Mike Bay, MCG or Brett who movies had awesome visuals but mediocre stories they get hammered by the press.(I enjoyed Terminator Salvation by the way) To me James Cameron did not do anything that any other director could do if they could get a budget that big to do a movie. Think about what Neil Bok could have did if he had that big of a budget, or Chris Nolan, Jon Favrov(sp). What would be revolutionary to me is if they could make human not blue alien character but humans look photorealistic that you cannot tell who is real and who is not. I have already seen a cg character like the ones in this movie but he was not blue he was incredibly green LOL

i think i've beaten everyone here.. seen it for the 4th time yesterday wif my gf. i think we must all appreciate new things/tech and effort. movie has everything, its not just a shallow CG crap. it has its soul in the right place, actors look natural. JC is the best director in the world, notice one thing about his movies, how he makes you familiar with the characters and concept and then story of the movie takes over. absolutely beautiful and not to mention MOVING. i hated human beings(aliens) so much in the movie..hahaha. JC fo life.. keep goin yur the man (and also Quantin Tarantino ;) )

watched this film 4 times already and own the soundtrack. Really haven't seen or heard anything like it since Titanic. It's like watching a new film each time and hasn't lost the feeling yet.
