Avatar's 3D Blu-ray will only be available to Panasonic 3D TV owners
The release date wasn't confirmed yet, but the earlier Hollywood in High Def report indicated that December 1 would be the launch date for this 3D BD release. It also wasn't clear how long this exclusive engagement with Panasonic would run for, although it was said that it would be, "unusually long," which means that the only way Avatar fans can see the film in 3D BD is by purchasing a Panasonic 3D Vierra TV.
Twice.com is also reporting that Panasonic is working out details for a program that would make the 3D BD version of Avatar available to consumers who have already bought a Panasonic 3D television.
We had previously reported a few weeks ago that Avatar wouldn't be released in 3D Blu-ray until 2011, because director James Cameron and Fox Home Entertainment wanted to allow time for the 3D home entertainment market to grow. The Twice.com article revealed that this launch was only, "recently determined," so it seems James Cameron and Fox Home Entertainment had a change of heart sometime within the last few weeks, although, it is likely that the non-Panasonic-exclusive release will take place much later in 2011.
We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further details on this upcoming Avatar 3D Blu-ray release as soon as more information comes in.
Avatar was released December 18th, 2009 and stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel Moore, Giovanni Ribisi, Michelle Rodriguez, Laz Alonso. The film is directed by James Cameron.

So, from what this article above is saying, is that Avatar 3D on blu ray disc, will not be out for everyone to be able to buy it, until either January, February, March or April in 2011. Oh well, i guess that was going to end up happening that way anyways =( .

Marketing? Money? Uh... of course. That's how it works. Did you see how long the credits were? A LOT of people worked on the film. And the better the movie does, the more they benefit. Panasonic was willing to back Cameron with the resources to create the technology used in shooting the film. R&D and testing aren't cheap, so now he's returning the favor. He'd be a jerk not to...

geez i kinda defended his IMAX re-release but this is juust waayy too muuch......and are those TV's the one where you STILL have to wear glasses? I pretty much done hearing about Cameron milking this. I was on board when I saw the first trailer, I was on board after I watched it, but I am done now. Either release it or don't I don't care any more. 3D has lost it's luster and part of it is because of everybody doing 3D Yes Avatar was the first REALLY big one, but stop juicing it. This is insane.
