Asteroids Scores with Universal

A 70s classic video game is about to get the big-screen treatment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures has won a four-studio bidding war for the rights to the classic 1979 video game, Asteroids for a feature film adaptation.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce the feature film, which Matthew Lopez is adapting for the silver screen. While the game, which featured a spaceship that had to shoot down incoming asteroids to avoid collision, did not have a story arc, the studio is used to such projects with the board-game adaptations of Candyland and Sorry already in development.

No production schedule was released for the film.

I don't know if this continues to be a sign that Hollywood is completely out of ideas, or if this is more a sign of Hollywood understanding that today's generation of moviegoers are just a bunch of brainless s%$theads, who will pay top dollar for this kind of crap.
