Apparition Sees Black Dynamite to Theaters
According to Variety, the spoof played in Sundance's Midnight section this year and was bought by Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group, which handles all domestic ancillaries for Apparition's releases.
In this case, Sony brought Apparition one of their titles to distribute theatrically.
Black Dynamite was helmed and co-written by Scott Sanders and stars Michael Jai White, who also co-wrote along with co-star Byron Minns.
"Both Scott and Michael really know every film in the (blaxploitation) genre and every little detail," said Berney, who saw the film at Sundance and has been following it while building his new distribution company. "Even the strangest stuff in the film has been seen or done in those films. It's a sort of 'Austin Powers' period comedy that appeals to younger audiences."
The film will have a platform release starting on Oct. 16.
Black Dynamite was released October 16th, 2009 and stars Michael Jai White, Arsenio Hall, Tommy Davidson, Kevin Chapman, Richard Edson, Darrel Heath, Buddy Lewis, Pete Antico. The film is directed by Scott Sanders.

This movie looks hilarious, and Michael Jai White is funny as hell and an excellent martial artist. But I wouldn't pay to go watch it.
