The Weinstein Company has altered its release calender for 2011, with the most notable change being Apollo 18's shift into 2012. The Timur Bekmambetov-produced found-footage project was set to debut in less than a month, on April 22, and now it will be released on January 6, 2012. No other movies have been slated for release on January 6 yet.

The studio also moved Piranha 3DD from September 16 to November 23. The 3D sequel would have squared off against Drive, Johnny English Reborn, and Straw Dogs on September 16. Now it will face Hugo Cabret, Arthur Christmas, Project X, and The Muppets.

Our Idiot Brother, formerly My Idiot Brother, has also been given an August 26, 2011 release date, and I Don't Know How She Does It will be released in Piranha 3DD's former slot, September 16.

The Weinstein Company also announced the launching of a video game company entitled TWC Games, which will produce video games based off former Weinstein Company movies. Take a look at the full press release below.

The Weinstein Company (TWC) announced today a new initiative in the video game space by launching TWC Games. The TWC Games label will utilize The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films' strong and recognizable properties, and work with external partners to develop and publish video games for mobile, social, and console platforms. Properties in The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films catalogue include Scream, Hellraiser, Halloween, Scary Movie, and Children of the Corn, among many others.

TWC Co-Chairman Bob Weinstein expressed excitement about the new initiative. "The video game marketplace is changing at such a rapid rate. With all of the digital platforms, there are so many opportunities to broaden our audience with compelling, high quality, cost-efficient, video game entertainment."

TWC Games has formed a strategic consultancy with Beefy Media, a video game production company, to foster relationships with publishers and create high quality games. Beefy Media President, Adam Boyes, will work closely with Matthew Signer, TWC Vice President, Production and Creative Affairs, to foster strategic partnerships and oversee all production aspects of the games.

"The Weinstein Company is an incredible entertainment company, and I share their vision for creating very high quality content for the marketplace," said Boyes. "We plan to combine our extensive video game developer relationships with the impressive catalogue of properties to create and produce content made by gamers for gamers."

Hmm, I'm seeing nothing replacing Apollo 18's 4/22 release date. So why change it? It will be crushed by the December dramas.

And how do you make videogames outta classic horror icons? Score points for picking off the ones with the most T&A? Or for avoiding the psychopath if you've got the burden of having the most T&A? The mystery detective angle of Ghostface I can somewhat see, but barely. This sounds bad, desperate--Oh, wait, it'd be both.

It'll suck regardless of when it opens. Just like that Smurf movie. Open it any damn time you want, it won't change the outcome.
